My new machine arrived yesterday, and I got it set up to use last night. I can hardly believe the difference in options between this machine and my old one (old one was F&P SleepSense). I will say, the F&P did a good job pumping out humidified air, but that was the extent of it. Of course, I knew when I bought the Resmed that I would now have data capability, but I was amazed as I read through the manual and cycled through the menus at all the adjustments I could make: EHR, ramp (not just time but also pressure), choose mask, etc. It was very easy to set up; it has a "quickstart" program with all the major options already set, so it was just a matter of changing a couple, such as my pressure requirement.
It's a very quiet machine, and just like the F&P, once it gets settled in for the night, the lights fade out, so it's unobtrusive in the room. Slightly smaller footprint even with the humidifier, which is an advantage on the small table I use (and without the humidifier, it's positively petite). I was a little startled this morning when I turned it off with my mask still on. The F&P sort of ramps down with a long sigh, giving several seconds to get the mask off after pressing the power button before the air pressure is completely gone. With the Resmed, fwoomph! It's off!
I don't have the card reader or software yet, so all I could get were simple numbers, but they didn't look too bad. HI was 0.10, leak 0.28 (I pulled the hose off the machine at one point, so that number is skewed), and AI was -- ta da! - zero! I'm not surprised by the HI number, as I have a cold and my breathing absolutely is impaired right now. I will graph these so I can follow the trending from day to day for now, and I'm looking forward to getting the software (although already resenting the price Resmed demands for it).
By the way, Jules, if you're reading this, you were right about the ramp setting -- the default of four as a starting point was too low. I will probably turn the ramp off altogether since I'm fairly accustomed to CPAP by now, but last night I just had to play with all the toys

Congrats, Catnap! Sounds like your new "toy" worked very well for you last night.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.
