problems 6 months into therapy

Post by Tcamille » Mon May 18, 2009 6:12 am

I have been sticking it out for 6 months and now all of a sudden I just can't take it. I can't fall asleep with a mask on my face, I am having anxiety those first few minutes I put it on because I feel like I am suffocating (using the ramp makes it worse). It's like my brain is trying to tell me I don't need this, even though I have proof from 2 sleep studies that I definitely do. Anyone else have this happen to them? Please tell me it's just temporary because I've gotten about 8 hours of sleep total in the last 3 nights.

First of all, quit using ramp! If you don't need it, don't use it and most people find they don't need it after they start. Especially if the pressure on your machine is low to begin with.

You haven't filled out your machine information so we don't know what machine you have. If you have an APAP, most people aren't comfortable with the settings starting at 4. When I first got mine, it was set to 5 and that was too low, too. I changed it to 5.5 and recently upped it to 6.

It may be anxiety, but it may also be physical breathlessness causing anxiety.
If you're getting breahtless while lying down, speak to a doctor - and please don't ignore it, or wait for it to go away. Breathlessness while lying down is one indication of a malfunctioning heart that causes fluid accumulation in your lungs.
