What does cpap do to eyes?

Post by whats up with this? » Thu May 14, 2009 7:13 am

I had eye surgery and stopped using my machine because I thought it was to much air pressure blowing in my eye, I have a torn retina and almost lost my eye.

I'm not sure what question you are asking. Do you mean your mask was leaking too much air into your eyes or do you mean the internal pressure in your sinuses from the therapy was making your eyes painful following your injury. You are surely not saying the XPAP therapy caused your torn retina and near vision loss?

A simple solution for the air leaking in the eyes is one of those soft sleeping blindfolds, like those sold here, for example: http://www.dreamessentials.com

Now THAT would complete the "mummy" look we are all after when we go to bed: Pap-Cap, big chin strap, blindfolds, mask, headgear, pantyhose supplement hedgear... am I missing something?

I would be very carefull if I were you.
I am currently seeing double and NO there is no leak blowing in my eyes. My eyes are now only a little red as opposed to glowing but the double vision isn't decreasing it is just variable.

I have an appointment at my DME next week to check things out.

No the cpap did not cause my eye problem, but I wondered if it made the tear larger and would interfere with the healing process.

I had some vision problems when using a full face mask that pressed onto the corner of my eyes just a little - I recovered when I went to a nasal pillow mask.
