I wet my lips with my tongue and the strip in my mouth with saliva. Push it into place (with my tongue) in the center of my mouth to where I can just feel the edges of the strip at both the inside and outside of my lips. If the curve is wrong I can tell and correct it then. Push my lips together tightly to adhere. If it is too dry I add a little more saliva with my tongue. If it is too wet I open my mouth and let it dry a little. The same corrections can be made during the night, or if I have to open my mouth for some reason and want to reseal.

I just use the one strip in the center. The strip doesn't so much create an airtight seal as it keeps the lips closed. With my lips held closed my tongue is trapped and no air leaks out of my mouth, including the gaps at either side. With higher pressures that may not be enough, which is why some use tape or an elastic band in addition.
This is almost exactly how I do it. I tried taping with Micropore and equivalent, but it was hard on the skin around my lips. Finally I ran out of tape and couldn't find a suitable replacement in Paris, as none of their Micropore-type tapes would stick through the night.

That led me to the Polident strips, which worked very well for me. In the morning, I use a Kleenex to remove the strip and residue. Imagine my dismay when the stores here stopped carrying the strips earlier this year... luckily I managed to score a year's worth from a liquidator on ebay.fr for a great price.

In between running out of strips and finding more on eBay, I tried the paste. Ugh. It worked okay and was tolerable for a few nights, but... ugh, yuck, bleah, blecch, or beurk, as they say in French. Strips good, paste baaaaaaad.

WOW . . .
You "Polident People" came out of the woodwork . . . with LOTS of specific techniques to try. Okay, I'll persist.

Thank you so much!

Hi Joy: I've been using the Poligrip cream the last 3 nights. I wet my bottom lip, wet my finger, and put a little cream on the wet finger. Then I smear it on my lip trying to cover the whole lip. Then I just close my lips like they would be normally, and in a few minutes their sealed. Clean up isn't the greatest of fun--but at least I'm not mouth breathing now. Hope this will help you..

Joy,

Larry started this thread:

viewtopic/t41866/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42 ... 57#p372086

so I pointed him to your thread

Told him maybe the two of you could put on clinics...you could show folks how NOT to use the strips and he could show folks how to use the paste

Hi Joy

Can you believe this? An entire thread on polidenting your lips closed.

What we apnea sufferers have to go thru to ply our craft.
