Just had some dental surgery...

Post by Trinity101 » Wed May 13, 2009 4:20 pm

HI- no,not THAT kind of dental surgery- I had to have some extractions- and as I was walking in my door,it hit me-I probably should NOT have the air from my CPAP blowing on these freshly-clotted sockets. Does anyone have any experience with this? I really think if I use it tonight, I am looking at a possible embolism risk, and as an RN, I am not really that enthusiastic about having an embolism from the air blowing into those "open" gums...anyone want to weigh in here?? Thanks,
~joan

I was told not to use cpap after my sinus lifts, bone grafts, and implants. I think you should follow your insticts especially as a nurse

Yes, I am going to follow my "gut"-based on 35 years' experience -I just kind of wondered if anyone had received any similar instructions. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the input.

My GF is a Dental Hygienist and I just asked her about your deal. She said air blowing isn't what would cause a problem, it's air sucking that would hurt you. You are in more danger drinking liquid thru a straw than using your cpap machine. I know that probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but you asked...LOL.

My dentist didn't see a problem with it when I had a tooth extracted. The only thing that kept me off the machine the first night was pain where the straps hit my face over where the extracted tooth was.

I had 6 consecutive teeth pulled, so I have a large area that is involved- and I am not putting pressurized air in there- no disrespect to your friend the DH, but air embolisms can occur from fairly small wounds- I'll sleep in the recliner and do without rather than worry- thank you also for your answer, though , I appreciate it as well. And yours also, cflame.
~joan (maybe a worrywart, but what can I say?)
