A solution for the Vista 64-bit & Encore problem

Post by LoneStar » Wed May 13, 2009 4:04 pm

Well, it worked for me. YMMV.

I recently got a brand-new desktop computer system with Vista 64-bit after my old system died. EncoreViewer doesn't work on a 64-bit system. After reading about some geek fixes that were way over my head, I started looking for a used laptop. I priced a lot of them from various sources.

Then I went online and looked at the Dell Outlet and ended up getting an Inspiron Mini 9 netbook for about $300.00 dollars that came with Windows XP (exterior dimensions 9 1/4"w x 7"d x 1 1/4"h).

It works great, has plenty of power and memory, runs my EncoreViewer, and is small enough to travel with - it fits nicely in my "travel PAPcrap" bag with all my other xPAP supplies.

With xPAP therapy, do or do not; there is no try.

I got one of the Dell Mini's also. It does run Viewer fine. The SQL server is a "Compact Version" and I could not get it to run Encore Pro. I did go to Microsoft and download the full version (32 bit version) and was able to get it to run Encore Pro. Hoping to keep using Encore Pro and Pro Analyzer for at least another 4 or 5 years.

I'm still too afraid to play with my "new" XP laptop. Yes Jerry, I'M A GIANT WEENIE!

Maybe tomorrow night. I'm just too tired tonight.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)
