New problems after three years

Post by NightTerror » Tue Aug 16, 2005 10:49 am

Hi all,
I have been on cpap for three years and have had little or no problems. However over the last month or so I have been experiencing problems while falling asleep. I have stopped breathing to the point where my face is tingling, I wake up flailing my arms trying to get the mask off to breath even though it is working fine. I own my machine given to me by the VA and have tried adjusting the pressure, the ramp another machine, different mask anything I could think of. I have a sleep study scheduled on dec 2 the earliest I can get but I need some relief now any suggestions?

I suggest you call your Dr. asap and tell him/her what's happening....something's wrong and you need to find out what and why.

Maybe you're experiencing panic attacks?

Does it happen only while falling asleep?

Does it happen if you're not wearing your mask?

Are you trying to flail your arms to get your mask off, but your arms can't do it? (Like they're temporarily paralyzed?)

Does it happen every night?

It happens with the mask off as well. It's like apnea with the mask on. No my arms aren't paralyzed but it is a panick to breath.

Go see your doc and get seen right away - maybe it is a problem with central apnea where the brain is not telling the lungs to breath? If this is the case, CPAP or even APAP isn't the answer you need VPAP - ventalated PAP which does the breathing for you. I may be wrong, but get it checked out ASAP.
