So, the first two nights that I was on the CPAP when I got the correct mask was bliss. Friday while I was in the dr's office with my son (who happened to have a viral throat infection) just kindly (while sitting on my lap facing me) coughed. We were face to face when he coughed which ment that I was just directly exposed. Kids like to share EVERYTHING! So after being coughed on and being used as a human klenex. The dr said it will just have to run it's course.
Saturday morning I woke with the mask laying on the floor and the blower going. Don't know when I took it off. Sunday morning woke the same way with my throat hurting. Sunday night it felt like my throat was swollen shut. I couldn't stand the air blowing in and the drying out of my throat. I couldn't stand to swallow so I didn't use my CPAP on Sunday night or Monday night due to the whole throat hurt so bad issue.
Monday went to dr and said the same thing with me. A viral throat infection. Rapid strep was negative. She has me doing 3 ibuprofirin, 4 hours later 2 tylonol. Then repeat. I have never slept so much in my life. However, I know it wasn't smart to not use the CPAP especially with how swollen my throat was but I couldn't stand it. Add 1 benedryl at night to that. Then take away benedryl and add 1 zyrtec at night.
I have such a low tolerance to pain meds that I take a non-drowsy sudifed and it makes me sleepy!!!!
I'm going to try tonight and hopefully it will be better. We will see though.
Anyone have this problem while sick? Any tips or tricks?

Other than a magic wand that you could wave and make the sick go away, not really. It is tough when it is a respirtory problem. In fact the common cold can be horses posterior. You have the best that can be had. I sometimes switch to a full face mask when I get sick with an upper respirtory problem. It helps so that I can breath through my mouth and turn up the humidifier real high to try to keep me from drying out. Since you already have a full face mask I don't know what else to tell you to try. Sooooooorrrrrry. Good luck.

Re: Miserable
I've had 2 colds since getting CPAP and the air pressure seems to make it easier to breath so I haven't had an issue, even using a nasal pillow.
Some people have more success with a full face mask when they have a cold.

It'll get better. Chin up and all that. Use the humidifier. I use a full face mask, so I just breathe nice warm moist air through my mouth if I have a cold. But, yes, it still stinks.

Re: Miserable
Thanks for the advice. I upped the humidity, turned on a fan to make the air cooler, and slept like a baby. Woke up this morning and my sore throat was almost completely gone.
