MyCpap.org.....Thoughts?

Post by klockemy » Tue May 12, 2009 10:31 am

What does everyone think about http://www.mycpap.org storing your xPAP data? Anyone use it currently? Opinions/thoughts?

Thanks,

Kevin

I am missing something. Why would you use the site rather than your own computer?

Don't know, that is why I asked?

Didn't know if providers used this site or something or if it provided some feature that the local PC didn't. I know personally, I am not fond of uploading my records to some site. Just didn't know if some of the other members had used it or formed any opinions about it.

I am not overly paranoid (just enough ~ ) but I really did not see anything to recommend this site over storing my data on my home computer. I had never heard of it before you mentioned it. I do have a backup storage drive, and I feel that is enough as far as record-keeping goes. It is always on and backs up daily.

I use a similar site for my biking distance. This could be useful. Cloud computing...it also would allow the developer to keep everything up to date rather than seeing our software become out of date. Also most computers would be able to chart. Less issues with Vista...

Thanks,

Isn't this a site James Skinner made? If so, he is an active member of this site and I think there are some other members of this site who are members of that site. Either James or Kiralynx (I know she has used the site) could tell you more about why you might use the site. I know I haven't answered your questions but the right people could answer them if they saw your post.

It's not JSkinner's site... it is another forum member though (can't remember his id)

So far I have only used that site to get the utility that lets me format my smart card.

I have PrimoPDF (free) and can put my reports on my computer using it, so have them on my computer in my "Documents". I also put weekly reports on a flash drive.

I don't know if Phil (the person who has this site) does anything more with the data since, as I said, I have not tried it. The program may do graphs of your data that MAY be similar to James Skinner's program. Since Phil's site can do something with Encore Viewer data and James Skinner's program is designed just for Encore Pro, there may be something useful here. Phil was on the forum a few weeks ago, explaining what he is doing with the data. I didn't look into it that carefully.

I'd be interested to see what anyone finds out if they use this.

I personally see little value in this site.
I usually download my respironics smart card and take a look at all the data and rarely ever look at it again, but it is kept on my computer.
No big deal if it is lost in a crash.

Many people lament the loss of data and documents with a crash.
My simple solution to this is using my yahoo or gmail address and will send docs and things to myself.
Then I will make folders there and file them away.
If I lose my hard drive, there is n o problem with accessing it from any future computer.
Storing your dato on their seervers is a great feature.
Works for moi.

Thought for the day:
Why do some people consider water boarding torture and have no problem at all with late term abortion?

Is it really any different from uploading to Photobucket or one of the many other sites to share your data with others?

A good free computer backup service that I use is MozyHome and have really liked it so far.

http://mozy.com/

And sorry about getting the wrong site owner...as Hawthorne said, it is Phil and not JSkinner.

I took a look at it and it seems like a good concept, just a bit incomplete. It also bothers me that the site doesn't use SSL (isn't secure) nor does it have any mention of a Privacy Policy or notice of intent anywhere on it. The little tool that is available for download there is pretty cool.

As for me, I think I am going to keep the data local until this site gets a bit more secure.
