closing on exhaling?

Post by mhorowit » Sun May 10, 2009 4:40 am

this morning as I was still relaxed, while on my back, mask off, exhaling thru my mouth, something flaps closed so I can't exhale thru my mouth. tried it several times and I could almost hear it 'thump' closed. turned to my side and it went away. is this part of SA? this happen to anyone else? - Mike

Yes. It happens to me many times.
I can't "make" it happen, but it's very weird. You're right, it's like a flap closing on exhale.
This is how I found out I have OSA, as I mentioned it to a nurse, who then recommended a sleep study.
I'd love to know how common this is. I wonder if it's a "walking apnea."

No, I had it done in Fairfax, which is close to home.

It is not uncommon for apneas to occur just near the end of exhalation.

that is your tounge falling back into your throat. I had a operation called tounge advancement and now I can sleep on back. They basicly sew your tounge down threw the bottom of your chin. I said, you wanna do what? But I trusted him and what a difference it makes. Of all the things I had done it worked the best, next was a septoplasty.
