Re: First Night on CPAP....
I think it should be a requirement for all sleep doctors and DME employees to spend an hour masked up on a pressure of 4 (although I guess that would be cruel considering we know they would feel like they are suffocating ).
My fleece hose covers for my long hose and the hose on my mask, have eliminated rainout for me now and I still get to have the humidifier on 3.
I used the Quattro for a week and thought that exhaust from the mask was bad. Then I swapped to the Swift LT for Her and my cat is mad at me for trying to blow her out of bed At least I can dust the bedside table by sleeping on my left side part of the night. Good thing we have a king size bed so that when I sleep on my right side, my husband has some "escape" room

Tell me about it....4 is stifiling....
I just ordered my 10ft hose and grey long hose cover today from cpap.com. Can't wait to get it so I can put the machine closer to the floor on the bottom shelf of my nightstand instead of right beside the bed. (Bright blue lights and the darth vader noises from the machine at full pressure keep the wife awake).

Re: First Night on CPAP....
Congrats on a FANTASTIC first night. I can totally relate as I felt incredible after that first night.
Don't get discouraged if you start to feel exhausted again. My first couple of days were amazing (even with rainout and sticking the pillows in upside down) and then BANG like a rock I dropped. Still had great number but boy did I sleep. Minimum 12 hours a day for at least a week. Now with my sleep debt paid I'm back to feeling pretty darned amazing mostly everyday.
I'm almost at two months now and am starting to have a couple of issues but with all the advice on this board I'm tweeking and working out the issue. I think once I finish dealing with my son's issue I'll have enough time to document what problems I'm having if I can't figure it out on my own.
This board is great and the advice I found here also helped take the mystery out of much of it and set my mind at ease, reduced my anxiety and actually made me anxious to get a good night sleep.
Have a terrific sleep tonight!!!!

That is the way I feel now, I actually am looking forward to going to bed! This board is great and the advice I found here also helped take the mystery out of much of it and set my mind at ease, reduced my anxiety and actually made me anxious to get a good night sleep.
I am sure I will have my ups and downs, but I will enjoy all the ups I can for now! This forum was awesome in helping me ask the first timer, jitter, questions and really put my mind at ease. For once, I can say I went to my medical provider well educated and really enjoyed a cooperative effort instead of them telling me what to do and I say "Yes Sir/Ma'am".

I'm going to say it. I'm actually jealous but happy for you. I'm a newby with one problem after another but then my pressure is 20. So, I sincerely hope you continue to have success.

Congrats K on what sounds like a great start! I had a dream last week and I could not believe the clarity of the details the next day, and even now I remember it like it just happened. It is so cool, and strange at the same time.
Incidentally, I was curious about what pressure you are on. Your numbers look good. My first night was like yours but I have had to work to strive for the same results ever since. Some nights are better than others but you are way ahead of the game if you have no mask leaks and that trend continues. Just keep plugging along, even you might have those "bad" nights.

I am at 10cm with the C-Flex set to 3. I was at 5cm of ramp for 45 minutes, but I just changed that to 7.5cm at 15mins just a few minutes ago.Bearcat42 wrote:Congrats K on what sounds like a great start! Re: First Night on CPAP....
Looks like 7.5cm on the ramp pressure is my 'sweet spot' but I increased the time from 15 to 30 mins. I had to hit it a couple times last night to be able to fall asleep. I am thinking about turning the C-Flex down from 3 to 2 to see how I like that. I think the mask rise/fall is a little annoying. Other than that, I think I am doing well. Last night was AHI of 2.0 and the leak still right in line with the mask specs. At least this time, no mask alarms due to the hose coming off. LOL.
Just a note, the little water tank on this thing only has a tiny bit of water left in it with the HH on 3 for 9.5 hours.

Kevin.....
If you run that tank dry, the surprising stench is something you won't forget. You'll only do it once........
Better throttle back........

Re: First Night on CPAP....
Really? Think I will try it at 2 tonight and see how much is left. Too bad they made the tanks on these things so small (325ml), but at least there isn't alot to dump out first thing in the morning (a couple tbsps).Gerald wrote:Kevin.....

Re: First Night on CPAP....
You were right Gerald, I set it to 2 last night and had plenty left over. Good Advice, thank you.
Re: First Night on CPAP....
Kevin.....
Glad it "worked as advertised".....
Now.....start watching for internal condensation (rainout).....
Ultimately, you may end up at a setting of "1"......
It's my opinion that a high humidity setting is needed to compensate for dryness caused by a high leak rate.
As best as I can tell, you've (very early on) conquered most of your mask and mouth leaks....so, extra humidity is probably not terribly important for you.
You're doing really well.........

Re: First Night on CPAP....
Thank you, thank you.
I have a really good seal on my mask without having the straps tight at all. The only time I get any leak is if I yawn REALLY big or if I lay on my side with my arm under my head, then I get a little leak around my eye. If I readjust, no leak. I checked my leak rate again this morning and it was 30.1L/min I believe. And if I am not mistakend, according to the mask manual, @ 10cm the leak rate is around 28-30 (really small graph). Keep in mind these are averages b/c I haven't gotten the software or reader yet to get the detailed info yet, just reading it off the LCD screen for now.

How are you getting your leak and AHI rate without the software? im on night 2 of my CPAP therapy, i have the M series pro machine, the picture you have in yours doesn't have the LCD screen.
Re: First Night on CPAP....
The LCD screen is covered up by a plastic flap above the buttons. I added the AHI/Leak Information/etc from the provider menu. The were turned off by the DME, but I enabled them so that I can view them without having to enter 'doctor' mode everyday.
