I don't know how many did this but, I sent an email to Resmed as a result of this thread.

I received NO response.

I emailed Jennifer, but I included my phone number, and she did phone me after a few days. Last time I talked to BleepingBeauty, she said she'd emailed twice and gotten no response. Perhaps we should start a new poll -- how many have contacted ResMed and got no response?

I'm not usually the litigious type, but it seems to me a class action suit would be apropos. <sigh> I can see it now. We get new, defective pillows for the life of our masks.

The first of July I bought a new LT mask. The whole thing is a piece of junk. My AHI and leak rates are higher than they have ever been. The one I bought back at the first of the year worked great, but this one is a POS.

I’m glad to report that right out of the bags, every single one of the refined pillows the engineers sent to me felt just like my “old faithful” which lasted 9 months.
....
The overall results are good, but curious. With all other things remaining equal from the months of use of my original LT pillows (pressure, headgear, humidity, taping, hygiene, etc) my AHI has this past week ranged from 0.2 to 1.7 while using one of the refined pillows sent to me. (Specifically: 0.2, 0.3, 1.7, 0.8, 1.5, 0.9. 1.4). This is fairly comparable to my previous AHI of about 0.2 to 1.5 for many months, though on the higher end of my typical numbers. The weird thing is that the leak rate moved from an absolute constant of .24 with my old pillows, to .30 (using pressure of 10) with the refined pillow just sent. I’m told that the engineers are looking at this.

As I have said several times previously---I am impressed with this entire experience and ResMed’s response. Guess I should add the usual disclaimer that I have no vested interest in this company and no other motivation than to request a study of their quality control for consistency in a product I consider to be outstanding and want to see continued at its highest level of effectiveness.
...
plr66, Sorry to respond so late to your continuing significant efforts with the goal of helping everybody here. You may recall, I had posted a few times in this particular thread earlier. I read most of your subsequent posts, and sorry to hear about the turn of events.

Nevertheless, for completeness of data sake, would you be kind enough to post the number markings (which I suspect is a manufacturing batch or a mold) on the back of each mask by size and from your old batch or the new batch? Please give as much as detail as possible. You seem to have one of the largest individual collection of these masks. (cf. I only have two sets, numbers are different for different sizes and for the two purchases). I would be interested in seeing if any (useful) pattern emerges from that number/date of purchase.

I would like that information as well. I am interested in the number on the GOOD pillow that you have,plr66.

I have a number of cushions and they seem to have a different number on each of them. I'd like to know the number on the pillow with which you had the best success.

Thanks.

twokatmew wrote:... it's still a matter of ResMed/Jennifer talking out of both sides of their/her mouth. The letter Ozij quoted clearly admits there's a problem with the pillows even though they may all be "in spec." Too bad Jennifer didn't take the time to make sure I received the corrected pillows instead of stock on hand. And too bad these "corrected" pillows that plr66 received aren't the same as the firmer pillows and seem to deteriorate more quickly.
YES to all you have said here, tkm.
Obviously, denial and CYA philosophy by Jennifer/ResMed. Sure has soured me on this entire experience which I felt so initially positive about. Also too bad Jennifer/ResMed cannot wake up to how much damage is done by such a shut-down of responsiveness to their customers and how much could be gained by simply responding without defensiveness in replacing faulty product to those who truly have experienced product failure due to their QC failures.

plr66- I would still like to know what the number is on the pillows you find work the best. I am aware it may not mean anything but I would like to know.

Thanks

My good, small pillow has a 6 on it. The "dud" pillows have 2, 3, 4 and 7. IIRC, these numbers referred to the molds used to make each pillow???

f_b, I'm not sure that the data you're asking for will be important, since I was informed by the "Sydney engineering team" that the problem seemed to be with the initial output of pillows from a production on any given mold. I took copious notes on everything said in their phone contacts with me, but since they have refused to put their findings in writing to the forum, they are apparently (or Jennifer is specifically) denying the accuracy of my reports from those contacts. Wow, such integrity just blows me away.

The magic pillow for me had a number 6 on it. (EDIT: Purchased new, at the first of Sept. 2008). But I did not copy down the various numbers of the flimsy ones I returned to them. None were #6, but did vary, as I remember. The 8 replacements they sent me are all #12.

It is my belief that their pillows production in China is subject to wide ranges in quality given what we have all heard on news reports about other horrendous & toxic product issues from this country. Save a buck, ResMed. Yeah. Good going. We all thank you.

Well, I will order an Opus 360 on Monday from my DME and see how it compares to the Swift LT. I had to throw one pillow away after trying to use it for 2 hours, with it collapsing on exhale. 2 of the 3 pillows I now have are deteriorating fast, leaving me 1 out of 4 in just over 3 months use. Not a very good track record at the price of pillows, IMHO.

This afternoon I came home to a voicemail message from a quality engineer at ResMed. I returned his call but had to leave a message. His message said that he was acting on an email from Jennifer Baum, and that he wanted to discuss the issue of pillow problems and to let me know what ResMed is doing on their end. I'm disappointed I missed him, but I expect I'll hear from him tomorrow. I hope he doesn't call while I'm at the vet with Ben!
