what you need to be afraid of is the alcohol and partying once he reaches his late teens and early twenties.
Well, he is 16. He's pretty responsible on the alcohol side. Always honest with us when he has partaken. We have safe harbour here, so if he or any of his friends have had too much to drink we'll come get them, whatever time, no questions asked (until they sober up).

Besides...I've seen these kids party...they got NOTHIN on what my husband and I were up to at that age.

It's my boy in the red in my avi that has been hurt.

Hoping the MRI today shows nothing and then we only need to worry about it taking time, however long that is. (Sadly, given his accident prone nature, the xray dept, fracture clinic, and plastics dept are all too familiar with my lad. We used to call him petrie (for petrie dish) as he would catch all kinds of bizarre illnesses...he graduated to clutzy petrie by about gr 5.

I am sending prayers and blessings your way, for a speedy recovery. I had a bad head injury as a child, my friend and I were riding bicycles when we got this
"great idea" to ram each other head on at a pretty good speed. Needless to say she fell in the direction of the street, and I in the direction of the sidewalk, hitting my head on a lampost which knocked me out for a few minutes and then I realized I couldn't see anything. After a trip to the emergency room my parents were told if the blindness remained for more than 24 hours the possibility of being blind was almost a certainty. Three days later walla my sight returned and so did my memory of the accident. So keep strong and have faith.
God Bless,
Ellen

It's kinda crazy how precarious life actually.

I know that the neurological exercises can do amazing work for someone who's experienced a concussion.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Had the MRI. We will have to wait for the results now.

ON the up side. My brother is a chiropractor who consults regularly with neurologists and specializes in motor vehicle accident insurance assessments and such. Anyhow. He had a neurologist in today working an assessment with him and told him what was going on with my son. I assumed this fellow was from up north where my brother is but nope, he is actually not far from us and is local. He gave my brother his cell and office number for me and told him if I had any concern whatsoever not to hesitate to call and he'll bring him in no referral. Sometimes it's really nice to have connections. As has been mentioned to me we should have to need them but we all know the way the systems work.

My girlfriend is in tomorrow in imaging and she is going to keep an eye on the chart and take a peek to see what's going on to keep the wheels spinning over at the hospital.

I'm relieved I can call the neurologist if I need to and my family doc will be happy about that as well. The doc my brother spoke with works in the head trauma unit that my doctor originally referred to yesterday but given it's location, and need for speed we went to the hospital down the street. This fellow has priviledges at both hosp, as does his partner. My brother said he was one of the sharpest neurologists he has met with in awhile and was very comfortable if Alex needed to be in his care.

so now we wait. He made it a little ways today walking with a cane for balance but it is a very slow methodical walk ensuring he doesn't lose his balance. Still cognatively impaired and woozy, light headed. You can see him getting frustrated as he is trying so hard to put pieces together in his own head and can't connect the dots. He is better today though (I think) than he was yesterday.

May the One who blessed our ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah, bless your son with healing. May the Holy One have mercy on him, heal, strengthen and revive him. Speedily grant hm a complete healing, a healing of the soul and a healing of the body, along with all who are ill, now and swiftly. Amen.

Thank you all and Elander...I will take that prayer indeed.

Today was a bad day. Very dizzy, very unbalanced and lightheaded. I'm keeping a very close eye on him tonight and if he continues to go sideways here tonight I"m going to have to bring him back in again. Part of me is concerned I'm overreacting but on Monday when I thought we were just going for a check up I got summarily told there are no overreactions to head injuries.

I don't know. I think I may call telehealth tonight (I can get a triage nurse on the phone to advise on what to do.) He is so up and down though I just don't know.

His school is bending over backwards at the moment to accomodate him for the rest of the term. When he is able to start to focus a bit they will send a teacher here to the house an hour a day to help him keep up and will adjust his curriculum so he doesn't lose his year. Right now though we can't even plan that as we don't know how long he's out for.

Anyway...that's about it today. Just keeping a very very close eye on him. His pupils are equal and reactive so that's a good thing. He doesn't have a massive headache just more of a dull throb today.

Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers. I really really appreciate them all.

So sorry to read of this Froro. Will keep you and your son in my thoughts and prayers.

I've had one son in particular had a LOT of operations and trials when young - they do come out of it perfectly well more often than not, but it is heartbreaking and difficult to watch and live through as a parent.

This too will pass. Chin up, we're all here for you.

Froro, You have more than good thoughts from here, you have my fervent prayers and any support I can give, in any way. I KNOW the feeling you are going through right now, my youngest son had a severe brain injury 4 years ago and nearly died. He DID go into the coma, was in one for 2 weeks, and had to have 2 brain surgeries. He has made a full recovery.

PLEASE let me know if there is anything I can do, and know that both my husband and I will be praying for not only your son, but for your peace of mind.

Thanks all for your support. He had a good day yesterday. More alert, less wobbly. We'll see the doc tomorrow/today regarding the MRI results and where to go from here.

Once he can start to concentrate the school will be sending over a teacher 5 hours a week for instruction, and they will be modifying his schedule/accomodating him for tests/exams as he needs so he doesn't lose his year.

He is still sleeping there now, so we'll see how he is when he gets up today. Thanks again for all your kind words and thoughts. Means alot!

sorry to hear of your son's accident. If it is of any consolation or if it will give you hope that all will turn out well please read on.
I was involved in a head on collision with an on coming, much heavier, vehicle, which was overtaking a car, some 30 odd years ago. I still do not remember anything about it, I only remember traveling along the road on which it happened .
the car was a concertina'd write off and I was unconscious and had a bleeding head wound (seeing the car one would wonder how I still had legs). I do not know how long I was unconscious or just how many days I was in hospital, I didn't think to ask later. I was at the least "out" for several hours and hospitalized for several days. other patients would not chat to me as I did not stay awake long enough! I was confined to bed when back home, and even when I returned to work there were days on which I had to stay at home in bed due to dizzy spells. But all that passed and I returned to a normal life. If I have any long term damage due to this I am not aware of anything, except for, little bits of psoriasis, which I did not have previously. I carried on with my normal active life which included a variety of sports, although none were contact type. All the best to you and yours in this stressful time.

Hi, Froro. So sorry to read of your family's distress.

The only uplifting sentiment I can offer re: dealing with what you're going through is the fact that head trauma treatment has come a very long way, and the chances of a full recovery are much greater these days than ever before. My brother suffered a head injury 35 years ago, as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was wearing a helmet, but it was split in two from the impact. He was in a coma for several days and then spent weeks in Intensive Care. To this day, he remembers nothing of the accident. (Maybe that's a blessing.) He's not the person he was pre-accident, but he's high-functioning for someone who suffered a terrible and traumatic brain injury. If he suffered that same injury today, I bet he'd recover fully, considering how much more is now known about head trauma.

The fact that your son is young makes his full and speedy recovery even more likely. Keep your spirits up, and know that we're all sending positive energy your way. Best of luck to you and yours.
