What's the latest opinions on the Comfort Curve?

Post by derek » Sun Aug 14, 2005 9:38 am

In the eternal search for the perfect mask I'm thinking about purchasing a Comfort Curve. I sorta lost touch on the previous pros/cons from earlier threads. What is the current thinking on this product?

Hey Derek,
I had such high hopes for the Comfort Curve but they were quickly dashed. The cheek pads just squished my face so much that it actually hurt. I tried all kinds of adjustments and tried wearing it in the daytime to get used to it before trying to sleep with it, but it was so uncomfortable I decided to just give up. There are better masks, IMHO, that don't cause me pain and are comfortable to sleep with (more or less). My favorite is the Swift. Hope this helps.

I tried on a Comfort Curve at the local DME and decided rather quickly that I'd stick with my Breeze and Activa masks.

It was a bust. A complete bust.

I love it. It was not a favorite when I first got it but I kept going back to try it. I am now on my third or fourth time around, and am 10 days right now. I get tired of a mask after 7-10 days and change. It is number 1 or 2 in my five mask collection.

I think it is better than most, and good as any that I have tried.

Derek, this is such a hit and miss subject with so many different results! My personsl vote for best mask so far has to be the Activa, it works consistently well, and seems to for many. I also have a ComfortCurve with the newer headgear for business travel and it's just fine but did take patience and a number of tries to get it figured out. Good luck!

Derek, you've probably already seen most of the topics linked from this:

Jun 04, 2005 subject: Links to Comfort Curve topics

I try to keep the "mask" links thingies updated every few weeks. There might be some more recent topics in the list that you missed while you were out on the high seas.

I couldn't get it to work for me. Felt like my cheeks were clamped in a vise after awhile. Leaked like crazy when I tried to sleep on my side.

In all fairness though, I didn't get to whack it to pieces to try to get it to work better for me, as is my wont. It was a borrowed one I was trying. Decided not to spend my money.

I've been using it for a couple weeks now...had been using Swift for the last 8 months or so, before that 3 months on Comfortlite, 3 months on Breeze, 3 months on Activa, month on Ultra Mirage with a few others mixed in occasionally. Out of the box the CC did not work for me but I don't think there has been a mask that did yet. Instead of offering different colored front pieces they need to offer them with different angles or something or different thickness check pads because not all of us have sunken in checks like super models. I tried the pantyliner fix someone else recomended for a couple nights and it worked great- my only concern was that I have a very severe allergy to adhesives and didn't like the thought of having welts on my face if the liner flipped funny or something. Finally one night in the middle of the night I took a small pair of blunt tipped craft scissors to the back side of the siliocone check cushions and shaved them to 1/2 their orriginal thickness. Its been great since then- its easy to put on, doesn't get in the way of my glasses, no pressure on my nose at all, easy to disconect and best of all no marks to speak of on my face in the morning from the silicone check pads (which is pretty impressive with extremely fair & senative skin along with rosacea). The only other minor issue I had was the swivel seals on the barrel were not 100% air tight but a little plumbers teflon tap fixed that. I've ended up using on just about every mask I've tried at some point- most people probably wouldn't notice the very faint whistle but I have extremely sensative hearing. The light weight hose does seem to make a difference too and they are nice enough to send an extra set of headgear clips (how many of us have worried about losing one in the middle of the night)

If you do end up getting one I would love to swap extra cushions...I'm never going to use the large and I know you probably won't need the small. I'm getting a pretty good collection going of large nasal pillows- 2 from my Swifts & 1 the Comfortlite and I know there are a lot of people with small cushions/pillows that will never get used.

My wife and me both use the CC. I have no problem with a seal no matter how sloppy I get with the mask...it will always hold a seal for me. My wife is different sometimes the mask will hold a seal sometimes not. It is hit or miss for her. This is one of these mask that you will love it or hate it . What is funny though is; my father (who I have the same face and nose features) the CC will NEVER hold a seal for him no matter how hard I try to get it to work for him...........To me if you have $100+ to gamble the mask might be worth a try
