What is the effective life of a Remstar?
What is the effective life of a Remstar?
I have a RemStar Plus with over 5000 (yes, thousand) hours on it. Do I need to hit up my doctor for a scrip for another machine or is mine still good?
Also, if anyone has a clinician manual for a RemStar Plus and also one for a RemStar Plus with C-Flex (my wife's) please PM me.
Thanks

I don't know how long machines are supposed to last, hours-wise, but I'm pretty sure most insurance allows for a new machine after five years of use. Check with your insurer.RouxDad wrote:I have a RemStar Plus with over 5000 (yes, thousand) hours on it. Do I need to hit up my doctor for a scrip for another machine or is mine still good?

Every enquiry that I have ever made be it from a respiratory consultant, a DME or this forum says that the average life of a machine is five years. At eight hours per night, that corresponds to 14,600 hours. It sounds as if your machine should have many more hours of life within it.

I just retired my Remstar Auto c-flex machine with 8,000 hours on it. I was roughly 4 and a half years old. (I don't sleep 8 hours a night... more like 6 on a normal night)

Do you have your original script/prescription? Most insurance providers won't pay for another machine for about 5 years. Yours is probably only about 2 years old with that number of hours. If you have your prescription (and it's good for "life" when purchasing machines from Internet/online sellers), you can purchase as many as you want from online suppliers like https://www.cpap.com or from http://www.cpapauction.comRouxDad wrote:I have a RemStar Plus with over 5000 (yes, thousand) hours on it. I got nervous about not having a backup machine in my first year of therapy and then started buying additional machines as opportunities presented themselves.
Here's some threads with the instructions for both machines. They've been posted many times here.....along with just about every other XPAP machine made.

Re: What is the effective life of a Remstar?
My Remstar Pro 2 now has about 7500 hours on it and I was thinking seriously about getting another machine in anticipation of its demise.
However, I was talking to my primary care doc (whose wife -- also an MD -- is on CPAP) and he said it should be good for several years, possibly as much as 10 or 15. The machine had a sort of whining or whistling sound for a while, but that seems to have disappeared, so I've decided to let it ride for now.

Re: What is the effective life of a Remstar?
I am not sure.... I have over 18000 hours on one. I am keeping it for a backup.
My DME told my physician that they could not get replacement parts and that it should be replaced. (not sure about replacement parts, but the machine is running well.) I guess that my physician would not write a script for a new machine unless the old machine was not working.

Re: What is the effective life of a Remstar?
The lifespan of XPAP machines are D.O.A., to over 5 Years. You can use your Script to buy a CPAP or APAP online without it expiring. You can not buy a BiPAP with a CPAP or APAP script legally. It would be nice to get a xPAP that collected data and the software and reader to use with it.
If you take steps to protect yourself against machine failures, Fate is less likely to throw you a curve, it's usually the unready that have the most trouble, I have 7,000 on my APAP Tank, but I have a new one just like it stored, and a Pro 2 in the wings, all data collecting, as does Den. We are in this for the Long Haul. Jim

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!
