Should cpaptalk Be Divided Into Categories or Subsections?

The 85+ pages of threads in one category should indication to split this up.
Most folks will not go pass the first 2 pages of threads. The other 83 pages are wasted. Please split these up only common sense.

If you only look at a specific category, you miss all the crossover information that's located in all the other categories. Search is the answer to this dilemma!!!!!

This is my first post here.

Thank you all for providing so much valuable content. I have only been visiting this forum for four days now. I only wish I had found you sooner.

Now, I've read quite a few of the (most recent) threads here, and I've gleaned much needed information. I've also laughed so hard my sides were splitting. I really enjoy it and am comforted.

It's obvious who the main players are here. I see the same names so often that I already feel like I know you all. However, I think it may be easy to get so comfortable with this site, friendly with others, and acustomed to equipment, etc. that one forgets how important it is to be able to quickly find the right information efficiently.

I got my first equipment four days ago and immediatley needed help with my mask (imagine that). When I started reading threads here I was amazed at the lack of categories and well, disorganization. All I wanted to know was what are the most popular/unpopular masks and for what reasons? I started at the top and worked my way down looking for seemingly relevant threads. I eventually found some, of course, but felt there must be more opinions, so I kept reading. Okay, let's go back to that thread where they were talking about those two masks, what were they called? swell? sweet? swift?--breezy? activator? Well I guess I'll go to the products page and look through until something pops out at me. There's one of them, the Swift. What was that other one? Acclaim, Activa? I can't remember.

Here goes the search feature. Let's try "mask"--Ha! Let's try "best mask"--disaster! Let's try Swift and maybe I can find out what that other favorite is. Forget it!

Start from the top of the threads and see if I can remember where I saw that. I found it, eventually. You know the two masks, don't you?

I think the keywords are a great idea. Would it be possible to view the threads in two formats: by time posted and by categories? How about if the keywords were instead just categories, maybe check boxes that you could check when posting a new thread? (This thread would best fit into which category?) This would be a narrower set than a bunch of keywords. Of course you could do keywords too.

Whatever you decide, I will always be appreciative to have found all of you.

Interesting how this thread has more than 600+ views but only 54 votes. I already voted YES so I won't vote again, but I'll suggest this:

Johnny, go to any well-run, active, professional forum, and I'm pretty sure your find topics by sections. Then ask that forum population how would they like to switch and have everyone submit all their questions and answers in only one section. If you don't get a 99.9% response that multiple sections are preferred, I'll eat my FF mask.

I think you'll dealing with people who just don't want to change what they're doing, which of course is human nature.

I can live with one section because I understand how to use the search feature, but I'd be willing to guesstimate that 75% or more of this forum's posters and lurkers don't understand "searches".

This means many worthwile subjects and threads are lost to most people because of the forum's activity. Not to mention some people don't want to wade through every post looking for a particular subject.

My 2¢ worth again.

Something that most webmasters take advantage of are key words. This has been brought up before on this forum, but maybe should be revisited. If an initiator of a thread (and/or responders) were able to select a number of key phrases that would describe the topic, then searches would be much easier and separate categories would not be needed. A thought ?

I've been compiling several lists of topics about some of the more talked about masks. I add to each mask's list whenever I notice a new topic about it, and periodically update the "links" page.

Perhaps there might be a way to put the mask Links list somewhere that would be easy for newcomers to find? Not as a separate forum where topics take on a life of their own, but....somewhere...a sticky called Mask Links?

That's it! A sticky at the top. Another forum I visit (not related to apnea, but weight) does this. There are about 5 or six sticky's at the top for various key subjects.

I didn't cast a vote but I like the forum without sections, Okay, maybe I will go back and cast one.

The search feature here helped me wade through quite a bit of material to get answers I never expected I could find here.

Anyhow, I am psyched today because I FINALLY got my sleep study and prescription and posted my order here. Too late to get into today's shipment but if all goes well, Friday night I will get the decent nights sleep I have been waiting for since my sleep study was done 3 weeks ago!

If I could offer a suggestion for consideration I would like to see the "view next thread" link (the link that takes you to the previous or next topic) at the bottom of the posts as well as at the top.

Kind of disappointed in the way you blew it with HAKU's picture. You need to get out more. Maybe go to the zoo or at least read some nature books. If all else fails chrisp can help you as he is into this sort of thing.

The picture is NOT of a polar bear!! If you really looked closely, well maybe not you, computer geek, highly organized assembler of posters previous opinions prioritized for your philing system eccentric person you are, it would be easy to overlook. But chrisp knows, ask him if you like!

Go back and take a close look at that picture. Then let your stifled nature, wildlife, kinky imagination run wild.

In most other boards I frequent, I like to read ALL the posts. Most of the time, the boards are divided into sections, which causes a lot of time jumping from section to section. It's much easier for me to just scroll down the page, and go to the next to see if there are any interesting threads.
