What to use for dry lips?

Post by proudaunt » Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:06 pm

Since i've been on cpap, my lips get VERY dry at night. My data download a few days ago at the DME shows no leaks, so that's not the cause. I do have a bit of an overbite, so my mouth is always open slightly, and with the air pressure, licking them is tough. I have been using a night-time lip therapy on them, but it is almost pure petroleum jelly. While this works great for me, is it safe to use with the mask? I have a nasal mask, not a full mask. If not, can anyone recommend anything else that might work?

Hi There---I have been using Burts Bees lip saver--with Pomagranite. It works great!! I used it faithfully every single night. Try it --CVS pharmacy sells it and I have seen it at Walmart and Target too---

I also have used the Burt's Bees products ever since I started CPAP a month ago- I figured the beeswax should not be detrimental to the mask-and it has worked beautifully for me,as well.

I have been having dry, chapped lips lately. Didn't associate it with cpap -- just thought it was the time of the year or something. Burt's bees must be kept busy, because that is what I have been using and like it a lot.

Yep, Burt's Bees for me, too. And if you use the minty one, it makes your breath smell good

I was worried about this too. Now I know what to try. My lips get so dry and crack while I sleep. And this is without the mask (!) since I haven't gotten a call to go to the DME yet.

I use Trader Joe's brand Mint lip balm. Cheap, easy, and fits in my pocket. No petro products at all. Use it 24/7, keep one on my bedside table. If I wake up for a sip of water or a potty break, I automatically smear some on my lips.

Using non-petro based, non-glycerine lip balms will solve alot of your dry-lip problems. I have been a glycerine addict when it comes to lip balms. break that habit, and you'll find your lips respond better.

Good luck!
