FlexiFit 431 vs. 432

Post by Catnap » Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:00 pm

I'm getting ready to try my next mask and have decided to check out the FlexiFit. The 431 and 432 seem almost identical. Has anyone used both? Can you give me a rundown on the significant differences? I've read the descriptions on cpap.com, but it's hard to tell which (if any) might make a difference. All input welcome -- thanks in advance!

They are pretty much the same.

432 has a foam cushion insert that fits under the silicone seal ... the 431 only has the silicone seal
432 fits a bit on the small side for any give size (due to the foam insert) ... so a 432 med fits a tad smaller than a 431 med and a 432 large fits a tad smaller than a 431 large, etc.

In a Nutshell, that is it, for sizing anyway. The other diff is the 431 comes with 3 sizes, S, M, & L. 432 come in just one size to the pkg.

XL is also avail but I think that comes by itself.

You got it right on the button DreamStalker!

I say get a 431 to start with (as it comes with three sizes of Silicone seals along with the mask). That way you can figure out the size that fits you best. The you can try the 432 with some idea of the size you want (remember the 432's fix "something like" a half size smaller, for any given silicone seal, because that foam insert takes up space so the silicone seal cannot flex as much)

Note though that the "universal mask shell" is the 432. If I take out the foam cushion and just use the silicone seal, then I cannot tell the difference between how the 431 or 432 fits on my face. But, the 432 has two "tracks" built into the mask (an outer track that holds the Silicone Seal and then an inner track thatt holds the foam cushion). The 431 only has the outer track and therefore it cannot hold the foam cushion.

Thanks, all! So, it seems to me that the foam cushion would be more comfortable -- do you find it to be so? Also seems like the slightly smaller fit might help prevent leaks; again, has anyone found that to be true?

The foam was added to improve the seal by reducing the leaks. It didn't do that for me but really makes the fit & feel different by taking up more space inside the mask.

Both are really comfy masks which will leak unless your face is the right shape and you don the mask correctly. You should put your chin in the chincup 1st, then lean the mask up towards your face.

These masks are notorious for leaks in the chin area and between the eyes, esp. at high pressures.
