HELP: Itchy Nose

Post by Gasp-N-Choke » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:55 am

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I am having problems with an itchy nose at night. I am using a full mouth and nose mask. and my nose gets itchy. Not the inside. But the outside, on top, at the tip, and sometimes around the nostrils. The sensation is so irritating I will partially wake up and remove the mask. Last night, I only got 2 hours of therapy, and woke up very tired this morning.

I thought it might be static electricity that was irritating the small hair follicles. So I tried shaving my nose. Other than nicking the bridge with a razer, I don't think I accomplished much.

I tried a little bit of Vasoline on the nose, and that sort of worked for a while, but then I would make up with massive irritation and not only remove the mask but scrub my nose down with a tissue to get rid of the Vasoline.

Has any one else had the problem? Have you found a solution?

Help.

Thanks.

I use a quattro and have the same problem. There are a few things that have helped me. After I rinse my face and dry before going to bed, just before I put my mask on, I scratch my nose all over. Misdirection also sometimes works. If my nose itches, I will bite my tongue or cheek a bit until I can focus on that and not my nose. If that doesn't work, I will try scratching the side of my mask, sort of pretending to scratch my nose. Lastly, if none of that works, I will go ahead and pull the mask forward a bit and scratch my nse if I can and then let my mask re-inflate and put it back on.

I'm afraid to say that since you've shaved your nose, you might have some irritation now from it, and if you had hairs there and they were shaved off, now, you'll be dealing with itchy regrowth when it comes back. I wouldn't advise shaving your nose anymore.

Ha Ha I thought it was only me - it never fails - air on, nose tickles. i think its the airflow. I just pop the mask, scratch a bit, go to sleep.

It is the airflow. I wear a SCBA Self contained breathing apparatus and I get the same thing when I go on air. Funny thing is it doesn't happen to many other guys, I seem like the lone one lifting my mask up scratching my nose. It really looks bad if I am on my way into a fire and trying to scratch with my big mits in a firefighters glove.

Don't take the mask off stick one finger in and scratch it or take the mask off scratch it and then put it back on. Try scratching your nose just before you put your mask on.

I've read elsewhere that people are using popsicle sticks to slide under their masks and scratch the itch. I've now got them by my bed, just in case.

I had been told on this forum to scrub your nose with a washcloth before going to bed. Works most of the time. If not, just take the mask off and scratch it and put it back on.
