Well, I've literally just got back from my titration study, and - wow. I was woken at about 5.30am after "lights out" at 11 or so, and unlike the last time with no CPAP, I do not feel absolutley exhausted! Just a little tired. Last time I had to come home and collapse straight into bed for another 6 hours. Woohoo! Also, I don't have a dry mouth choked up with phlegm at the back! More woohoo!
Anyway, they hooked me up with a Swift nasal pillow outfit and humidification, and while I woke up a few times coughing, that was because I've got the tail end of a cold and also some medication I take has the side effect of making me cough. The Swift was pretty good, no real discomfort, just stuff I'll get used to like learning how to sleep on my side a bit better. I might experiment with the different sized pillows, too. My nostrils are kind of tiny so "medium" is approaching "extra large" for people with normal nostrils. (Also no problems from my nose piercing.)
Turns out I need pressure at 8.5, and I had no trouble breathing out against that. So, the clinic is sending off my prescription and assorted red-tape forms to the Health Dep't and I ought to have my CPAP and humidifier within 4 weeks. I get one on free loan from the Health Dep't because I qualify as low-income and I get a $150 rebate on whatever mask I buy. (I'm in Australia.)
So, in general: HOORAY. I'm really looking forward to using CPAP every night, given how much better I feel after just one short stint with it.
Had my titration study!
Re: Had my titration study!
I read someone here describe it as the difference between tired (today) and fatigued (previously). I describe it as the difference between quality sleep (last night) and quantity sleep (previous nights).lola wrote:Well, I've literally just got back from my titration study, and - wow. I'll take an abreviated quality sleep over a long poor sleep any night!
