CPAP Cleaning Help

Post by Dxtra30 » Thu Mar 26, 2009 11:43 am

I have a CPAP machine it's a Nasal Air # 2 with nose tubes only and the machine is just filthy.. I guess I slacked on the cleaning.. The holes are so small so what kind of solution can I clean this with? Do i need to get like a long brush to scrub the insides?? Or is there a simple way to do this like the dishwasher? .. Any help would be great.. Another thing which I think maybe the cauase.. I've had a 2 week Double Ear Infection and Antibotics are working so don't know if it's cause of this bad CPAP being dirty... Any opinions on the cleaning and or ear infection cause please let me know.. Looking for all suggestions..
Thanks,
Ed
P.s. - I'm a heavy side sleeper and thinking about using switching to a Swift LT or something like that, not sure yet...

The cleaning i'm talking about is for the machine it self , not the nose tubes.. Alos my Antibotics DID NOT work , now seeing a ENT specialist.. Sorry for some reason could NOT edit my original post.. Thanks!

The cpap machine is the actual electronic "machine" that pumps out air. What kind of machine do you have?

The cpap MASK is the Nasal Aire II you have listed.

It's very very easy to wash this mask. I recommend you take the cannula off the side hoses, and using your fingers, cover the cannula with a mild soap - I use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile soap. Scrub the cannula well, then rinse thoroughly under hot running tap water. Now take the cannula, and put it in a small bowl, and fill the bowl halfway with white vinegar. Fill the bowl the rest of the way with hot tap water. Set this to soak for an hour or so - just give it a good soaking.

After soaking, re-scrub it again with soap and rinse with water. If it is particularly dirty, I will finish by dunking it in a small pot of boiling water, and letting it boil for 5 minutes. Then remove from boiling water with tongs, and set on a clean paper towel to air dry.

The side hoses can be cleaned in the same manner.

If you'd like to know more about this mask, please see my tip sheet here:
