Hi,
I just got hold of a Remstar Auto M Series with A-Flex, which I think was used in a research study, and the front screen is locked, and says For Research Use Only. None of the regular front screen commands seem to work. I can access the setup menu fine, and set the various settings, and the machine seems to work fine, but I'd love to be able to unlock the front LCD. I've looked at the smartcard using Encore Pro, and there doesn't appear to be any settings there. Any ideas? I can use the machine as is, but the display won't show if ramp is on or off, or flex is on or off.
When I plug the machine in first I see RESPIRONICS and under that is v 4.3, then the message For research use only.
Any help would be appreciated.

It was given to me by a friend. His wife was in some sort of study, hence the "research lock".

Never heard of such a animal, but you might try this:
"How does one change the settings or pressure on the Remstar?"
Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the little power cord in the back, wait for 2 beeps release buttons. Then press the + key to enter setup mode, use the <- -> buttons to move to the next field, use the -/+ keys to decrease/increase values, when set press the On/Off button to exit Setup.
Therapy Mode = CPAP/AUTO (If Auto is selected, there will be A-Flex or C-Flex options)
CPAP Pressure = NN (only appears in CPAP mode).
AutoMax = 20 cm (default)
AutoMin = 4.0cm (default)
C-Flex Setting = Off, 1, 2 or 3
Ramp Time = (0:05 to 0:45)
Ramp Start Pressure = 4.0cm (can be from 4cm to AutoMin pressure).
Mask Alert = On/Off (beeps on large leak, mask removal).
Auto Off = Off (turns off machine on large leak/mask removal) Suggest leaving it "Off"
Split Night Time = Off (options are Off, 120, 180, 240) Should be "Off"
Show AHI/Leak = On (enables logging to display) Suggest leaving it "On"
Patient Reminder = Off (days to remind you that you get a new mask w/Insurance).
returns to Therapy Mode =

If you can access the setup menu (specifically the clinician's menu), then you're golden. I doubt you can override the research only message as I'm sure it's hard coded in the version of the firmware. But let me assure you, you ain't missing nothin...remstarcpap wrote:Hi,

When the machine is operating, you'll see something along the lines of "10.0 CM" (or whatever pressure you're set for...). And changing ramp and flex settings outside of the clinician's menu, while perhaps convenient, is something that you'll rarely want to do anyway. I have the flap closed on mine and that's pretty much where it stays...

Re: Need help with Remstar Auto M Series with A-Flex Weird Lock
I'd almost bet it would take the same card, cable and program that it takes to set the clock to reprogram the Research Mode. Might check with a couple of DMe's to see if you can find one with the set-up. Most do not have it. I have asked several about it and get a blank look trying to get my clock reset but I am in a small town area.

Re: Need help with Remstar Auto M Series with A-Flex Weird Lock
I've been using the machine for a few days, and don't seem to miss having a front panel display. The setup and data menus work fine, and I can get the data off the smart card as well. I may call a DME to ask about the clock setting issue and see if they can fix it. or just ignore it, as it doesn't seem to matter.
