As a 48 year old with sleep apnea, I can tell you Medical Marijuana WORKS EXTREMELY WELL FOR ME. I started taking medical Marijuana after 2 years of strapping on that God awful CPAP Darth Vader mask. Within a few weeks, I slowly weened myself off the CPAP machine to see if the Medicine was working effectively. Guess what? My snoring was cut down to 15-20% of what it was before starting CPAP and my Apnea ceased all together. Yes, no more episodes whatsoever. It is important to note that my Apnea is CENTRAL AND NOT OBSTRUCTIVE and my weight is proportionate to my height (6'2", 185 lbs.). I agree with those that would discourage overweight/obese people from trying this because of the obstruction factor. Even though I am legally taking the medicine (I live in CA and have a VERY compassionate doctor), my job requires me to undergo drug testing for "illegal drugs" periodically. I stopped taking the medicine and within a week I had to dust off the CPAP machine and go back to tossing and turning all night due to the discomfort of the mask (I've tied 7 different masks and all of them give me a "claustrophobic" feeling though it does control the Apnea but does not give me a feeling of a good nights sleep). Hopefully someday I will be able to take the medicine I need to get a good night's rest without fear of "illegal drug" testing.

Bottom line, I believe Medical Marijuana works well for Sleep Apnea for some people and makes the majority of others worse. Due your own testing but consult with your doctor throughout the process, like I did!!!

Hi All

Never let it be said that those in charge of our well-being let facts get in the way of getting votes from an emotively biased and misinformed population.

For those who want some facts on this emotive issue, and do not want to listen to me - listen to -

http://www.leap.cc/cms/index.php

Will that change anybody who thinks different - probably not - until emotional pain breaks through their denial of what really causes today's (and yesterday's) drug problem.

Mars

As for the above post - it is the 1st April. You have to ask why he was using a cpap machine for central sleep apnea
for an an easier, cheaper and travel-easy sleep apnea treatment :D

I wonder with our growing acceptance of medical marijuana if anyone else has played with this.
I saw one poster say it helped him a lot I just wonder how much he was using. My outlook on this
might be different if all it took was one small toke at bedtime or 4 or 5 joints throughout the day.

I fail to see how it would magically either open your airway 'on call', or at all... it's not noted for that kind of neuromechanical (my word) thing, and how it would impact respiration is another thought... not anti-weed, just don't think it fits here.

I have often wondered if it would help a person stay asleep a little better...like with me and my pain issues.
Or someone with insomnia issues that has trouble with sleep maintenance insomnia.
Maybe if I ever get to Colorado I will give it a try.
Not much chance of it ever getting legal here in the Bible belt.
Not meaning to do without CPAP because like Julie I can't see it holding the airway open at all but maybe in conjunction with cpap to get more restful sleep.

I wonder if any plant scientists are working on genetic modification to get the same effect
from something like kale, or rocket.
Pass the rumor--teenagers will start eating their "greens"!

At 71 I spent my youth in the 60's and never tried it. However both medical and recreational are legally available in my state and I considered it for pain after knee replacement surgery. I healed too fast unfortunately. I know several people who have used it in very successfully in cancer treatment. I have never smoked but would not mind a small brownie before bed when insomnia strikes. Perhaps it will work as well as the honey suggested in another post? I have a Doctors appt. Friday I wonder what he will say??????
Marijuana is being grown locally by a father that has a chemical composition suitable for children(no high!). A few medicinal plants can be grown at home with Rx). It is available for treating seizure disorder and seems to work better in some than traditional drugs and is much less dangerous. More and more chemically designed varieties are becoming available for specific diseases and syndromes. I am sure someone will figure out what works best for sleep apnea. A store is opening near me soon.

Why not just do a little test? I found that taking opiate pain meds after 12 noon raises my AHI a great deal with CAs. The pulse Ox doesn't
show me desaturations during those events, but if I can I no longer take them after noon. It would be a simple matter to use pot
and monitor AHI and O2 for a couple days to see if pot has any effect. Not a big study but if a few try it an post results perhaps at
least a trend may be seen. I smoked pot a great deal until my early 30s but now it gives me panic attacks, so I cannot participate,
but I'd be interested in the results.

I would try it if I had legal access but we don't here in Missouri.
So I can't participate in any experiments.
Colorado is a bit too far to go to the store..unfortunately.

No need to SMOKE it anymore people., it comes in cookie form, as well as drops under your tongue. They took out the stuff that makes you high so you shouldn't worry about panic attacks. It's legal here if you have a medical card from a doctor. No - I have not tried it but I have friends that have a card to buy it.

It would make it harder on funeral directors, picking up a stiffone, with a XPAP nearby, and having to make them up three extra hours, just to get the grin off their face.

I will try as soon as the local recreational store(s) opens. Right now there is a city debate about how far apart they have to be. I think there we six applicants for one street. Not the best parking either. I doubt my doctor will give me a Rx he is definitely a pharmaceutical prescriber so I will have to wait a bit.

it's just a matter of time before it spreads like Kudzo as long as it can be regulated & taxed . i haven't smoked a joint in 30 years & have no desire in that regard. edibles & oils are another thing. hemp is being refined in so many different ways. i bought a few shares of MJNA last week http://www.medicalmarijuanainc.com/
