Picture of Deuce my Service Dog

This is my service dog and I do leave home without him.

I will find a good picture of my cat and post it. She is also my service cat.

Cuddles would wake me up even before the sleep apnea machine, because I was not breathing correctly.

Animals are smarter than we give credit.

what a great helper you have! I saw a piece on local tv about a 12 year old girl who was born with a severe form of central apnea- all her life she had used non invasive ventilators and someone in her family sat by her bed to make sure that they could wake her if the alarms went off- now she was using one of the new servo ventilators and they had obtained a service dog (a little silky terrier) who was trained to listen to the alarms on her machines and to wake her and get help! for the first time in her life she did not have to have someone watch her while she sleeps!

my dog is not a service dog but she is trained to retrieve the phone for me in the even i fall (i am wheelchair dependant) and as i live alone that gives me a sense of security

I am trying to train Deuce to get the phone for me as well.

I am thankful that when I go to Door county in Upper Wisconsin we always stay in the same motel.

The manager even asks if we are bringing Deuce. Yes he asks for him by name.

Deuce loves to travel and go places.

If you are in a manual chair, you can get a special harness and your dog can help you move around in your chair.

I have a Frontier X5 power chair and I will never go for anything else.

Deuce will point to my cell phone because I forget where it is when I amout and about.

Gee, my stupid ol' cat only wakes me up to feed her! Or to get a head scratch...

Deuce appears to be one smart and loyal friend! And quite handsome, too!

He is and loveable.

My girl, Cuddles comes from a longline of show cats as well. She would lick the end of my nose or the tip of my chin until I woke up. I could not lay back down until she was reassured I was fine then she would let me go back to sleep.

To me all dogs and cats are special but those service dogs are something else. It is amazing how smart dogs and cats really are and how much we take them for granted sometimes. Congrats on having a wonderful friend in Deuce! I would love to see more pictures of him.

What a BEAUTIFUL and wonderful Dog Duece is! Thanks for sharing.
My father is deaf and had a hearing service dog for 14 yrs, who we lost in 2006. In April 08',
I was able to find a Shetland Sheepdog puppy who was in training only 2 hours drive from us, and Buddy has
joined our family and is Dad's sunshine and best friend. Dad never dreamed he'd be blessed twice in life
with such a loyal and awesome companion. These dogs are truly remarkable, and we're all blessed to share
our lives with them.

What a beautiful loyal friend you have in Deuce - and an awesome cat! Even dogs that aren't trained are so in tune to their owners. I've been blessed to have two AWESOME dogs (both pets) in my life so far. One while I was growing up and one that was mine and my husband's "baby" before we had a baby of our own. Both were great dogs, very loyal and very protective - and very in tune to my feelings. They always tried to cheer me up when I was feeling down!

Thanks for adding the closeup picture of Deuce so we could get a better look - he's a good looking guy! The only service dog I've known well belongs to my visually impaired friend, and she had to go out west for several weeks of intense training to be able to have him. It took me a while to get used to trusting him - I kept wanting to warn her about curbs, etc. Soon I realized he was more in tune with every detail of her environment than I could ever be. Interesting thing about him is he seems to not just be in tune with guiding issues. When they're with me in my van, he gets real unsettled at my chronic cough, and she has to reaasure him that I'm ok. What a comfort to have such amazing creatures caring about our well being - as if unconditional love isn't enough.

I am impressed with both animals. But a trained cat. Around here, the cat keeps us trained.

It's wonderful to have these 2 friends. They really enhance your life.

Deuce alerted us to the lights going out before any of the alarms on the CPAP and Oxygen Concentrators went off. It was like he knew and the cat knew before the lights went out.

Tom has gotten mad at the cat several times for waking him up and it is all because he isn't sounding right or the machines sound different.
