I would always want to get the best equipment that has alot of features even more than what I need, So if I was to go with RemStar I would want the Pro.
Well, as ozij said...the Pro 2... not just the older "Pro".

And if you want more features than you might need...think "autopap" instead of straight cpap.

The Respironics REMstar Pro 2 is a straight cpap (set it for a single pressure) machine. Same single pressure blowing at you all night, even if it has C-Flex to reduce the pressure some each time you exhale.

The machine I use is an autopap - specifically the Respironics REMstar Auto with C-flex and heated humidifier. An autopap can be set for a range of pressures, delivering whatever pressure is actually needed throughout the night.

In general, an autopap is the best machine to get, imho. That particular autopap can be set to operate in any of 4 modes:

1. cpap
2. cpap with c-flex
3. autopap
4. autopap with c-flex

Very versatile. Using it in auto mode (with or without C-Flex) is almost like getting a mini-sleep study/titration every night.

Get the Encore Pro software for that autopap and you are well on your way to being able to monitor and tweak your own treatment.

Another excellent autopap is the Puritan Bennett 420E . Uses Silverlining software. The PB machines do not have any exhalation relief feature like the Respironics' "C-Flex" feature. If the single pressure the doctor prescribes for you is no higher than 10 or 11, you probably are not going to have difficulty breathing out anyway after you get even the least bit accustomed to cpap. You probably wouldn't really "need" C-flex for comfortable breathing at lower pressures.

Pro 2 as noted above. Or the REMstar Auto which would be my choice in that line.
and if I decide on another brand say for instance ResMed I guess it would be the AutoSet Spirit...I'll have to read the brochures on both.
Don't ignore the GoodKnight 420 machines either. (I have a 420E which is closest to the REMstar Auto).
also have to see what my insurance carrier will do for me.
That's a concern for many people. I was one of those with a high deductible so I bypassed both the insurance and my local DME and bought it out-of-pocket from cpap.com. With overnight shipping and 2 masks it was $13 more than my deductible. If I'd opted for only one mask or slower shipping it would have been less than my deductible!

OMG, WAF, that is the first time I think I've put been in that category of one who actually knows something here!!! That was soooo sweet. Thank you. I always defer to the resident "sages," as I've called them, like RestedGal, Ozij and Rock & Roll, and a few others who I'm not naming (forgive me for not naming you all).

Then we have Derek and I will include Tridens (helped me alot) who are the software kings of knowledge on this site, or at least IMHO. But to put me in a sentence like that, all I can say is, I am so honored. Thanks.

Back to the subject at hand, I LOVE my Remstar Auto with CFlex and wouldn't trade it for any other machine out there, or at least that they've invented so far or that I know about, which might not be saying all that much, contrary to WAF's belief.
