RemStar + Humidifier + Radio interference

Post by dsm » Sat Aug 06, 2005 4:02 am

RemStar + Humidifier + Radio interference - (impact on and from radios placed near the h/h).

I recall a discussion on this topic taking place but can't recall what the outcome was but I just came across some info that may be of interest.

I had been wondering how the RemStar controlled the h/h as there is no obvious cable that does it (the power cord is only for power).

On a close examination I found that there is a light (infrared ?) transmitter in the base unit that communicates with the h/h unit through a receiving light diode - both appear to be microprocessor controlled.

Then on the back page of the h/h manual I saw a warning about electromagnetic radiation disturbance.

The manual on the back page, has a chart that relates to power from a transmitting device (all radios have an internal oscillator that acts like a transmitter) and the RemStar.

The chart specifically refers to a distance from the h/h (rather than the base unit). The manual also says "The RemStar heated humidifier uses RF [Radio Frequency] energy only for its internal function. Therefore, its RF emissions are very low and not likely to cause any interference in nearby electronic equipment".

Not sure if this is of any use to anyone but thought I would post it anyway.

Cheers
