So, the 'kids' that I work with are lucky....we still have a mainframe, though its (finally, really) going away this summer. Though it was surprising how expensive it is to get rid of a mainframe.

Not only is it apparently cheaper to upgrade a mainframe than dispose of one (safely and securely).... We've spent many times more than it would've cost to upgrade the mainframe, in moving off of it.

But, of course, the get rid of the mainframe project was driven by the fact that its a mainframe. They think there are other reasons, but once the decision was made....a ban on doing software and hardware maintenance/upgrades was instituted. The running joke was that the mainframe is going away in 3 years....that was the plan 10 years ago.

The Dreamer.

If I'd been diagnosed back when I surely had OSA (SNORED like a freight train from my early teens on), I wouldn't have been "diagnosed" at all. I'm not sure if "obstructive sleep apnea" was recognized as a sleep disorder then. Maybe it was.

Anyway, CPAP was still a longggg way away from being even a glimmer in Dr. Sullivan's eye.

I'm 64.

Been happily usin' CPAP for five years now.

RG, you hardly look a day older than 30 something.

As for Doug, he looks like he was an old fart even back during the 60's Apollo missions (or is that avatar a pic from the 50's Mercury missions?).

It's good to see this poll still going on. It looks like we can strive to live to be 4 %'ers in the 70s category. One has to wonder though, if the 70s & 80s numbers are skewed by the lower likelihood of those age groups to participate on an internet forum.......present company excepted of course.

So how do I go about changing my vote next year when I change to the next group?

OT but I had met Adm. Hopper (then Capt. Hopper) over the years when she came to be the featured speaker at our ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) meetings. She was known as the Mother of COBOL. Add to that her 3 careers, college professor teaching math, Naval officer and her stint with the Rand Corp. She liked to be introduced as the first programmer hired to program a digital computer (the ENIAC I think). One of her favorite things to do was to hand out pieces of wire in 9.8 inch lengths (which she delighted in saying were gathered for her from telephone rooms in the Pentagon by the boys and girls in her command) that represented the distance light travels in one microsecond.

Yea, she must be over 100. Does she use cpap too? If she was the mother, makes you wonder who was the father of COBAL?

Hello

I typed in age distribution of computer users and found the following link.

http://tips.vlaurie.com/2009/02/02/age- ... ine-users/
One thing it says is

"As might be expected, one difference that age seems to make is what the Internet is used for. Older Americans are less interested in social networks and are heavier users of email. According to the survey, 74 percent of Internet users over 64 send and receive e-mail primarily. Email is much less popular with teenagers who prefer texting, social networking, and blogging.
The chart below breaks down some of the usage patterns."

This seems correct based on the people I know.

The poll could more reflect the age distribution of people using forums than the age distribution of people on cpap?

I am just in the 4% group but still work full time and use and program computers so I do more than email with a computer.

I think I have had sleep apnea almost all my life. My wife found an article on sleep apnea. We recorded my snoring and took it to a doctor and after a few doctors and a sleep lab I got my cpap which I have used ever since. It was Respironics first commercial model according to their website. That was appx. 25 years ago.
I would like to click the 100 box in 29 years or so so we need to keep this topic alive. (Us too)

Was saying just the other day that I felt like a dinosaus when it came to wanting to e-mail versus Facebook or My Space or Twitter. Then when I saw this poll today, realized I can't remember if I've submitted my vote already.

Also realized today that I've past my 6th month anniversary and doing fantastic.

52nd birthday coming up. Why, I can remember when I turned 50........ seems like yesterday.
