Very late to this thread... 42 years old. Was originally diagnosed with sleep apnea by Dallas Presbyterian Hospital in 1989 but was too busy partying and so on to even bother to find out what the treatment was. Have been on CPAP for two weeks now and pretty much feel great!

Could be that 70 year olds and older with (or without) apnea are not as likely to be forum members.

Remember that many are born with the tendency; not being diagnosed until later in life--when they 'fit the image'.
Since treatment and diagnostics have changed a lot in the last 30 years--(more so right before that);
I think we might assume that only recently have apnea patients been able to survive into their 60's and 70's.
I know that Internet usage drops off with advanced age; and of course that is a factor.

Now that I learn more and really think on it, I may have had OSA for a decade or more, but it wasn't severe enough to notice until I kept on after-pregnancy weight and started snoring. Badly. The snoring part has been about 4 years, but I stopped thinking about it when I started using an oral device and didn't snore anymore so hubby wasn't disturbed, therefore neither was I.

Edited to add: I'm 39.

I voted 60's but I'm really in my . . . 40's! Yep. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Last December I turned 40 for the 13th time (be careful how you calculate that).

I'm thinking I've had SA for about 6 or 7 years, but the last year it suddenly became exponentially worse than the prior years.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

I can't even begin to fathom how long I have had this condition. I have ALWAYS snored, however I tend to think that it has gotten much worse in the last 10 years. I think that I read somewhere that menopause may have a link to that? Not sure, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my machine and mask and can not ever imagine sleeping without it again! I still remember my first sleep study when the tech put this mask on me and I felt so claustrophobic, had an anxiety attack after a few hours of not sleeping and just was a complete basket case. I was just determined to make this work because I felt so SHITTY, and liked the second mask that he fit me with and the rest is history. A few bumps in the road, having to adjust the pressure higher and put on auto, but with the help that I have received here it made it so much easier. I thank you all especially Pugsy was extra helpful, you all are really a wonderful group.

Forgot to add that I turned 49 on July 20th of this year...

I think there are many more older users, but, if they have been on CPAP for a long time they probably tend to spend their time on more productive things than message boards.

I'm 21+

I know I've had sleep apnea since I was 16 years old and more than likely younger than that. IMHO those of you children, teens and 20's are the REAL lucky ones who have been diagnosed early and are on cpap. I wish SOOO bad I could turn back the clock and with today's technology been on cpap. My brain would not have been pained with the YEARS of headaches and nightly suffocation as it has been. For too long tylenol was my friend. I shudder to think what that has done to my liver. In the words of my Mother-in-Law, "it is what it is" and I move forward with my cpap.
