I wear it as long as I'm asleep. If I find myself lying awake in the middle of the night ( which can be often, depending upon.. hmmm wish I knew ), I take it off because then all I do is think about it and breathing and I get more and more awake and tense. If I wake up and just turn over, it stays on. I can't wear it if I'm not pretty sleepy because it becomes "inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale." I wish my fourth grade teacher had never told us that breathing was a voluntary function.

I'm fortunate to be able to report that my average is 7 hours, 43 minutes for the entire time I've been using it, and 7 hours, 41 minutes for the last 30 days.
It looks like about seven and a half hours is what works well for many of us.

For me personally it is helpful to know how many hours of sleep people are getting usung CPAP. I'm still struggling with the leaks, the squeals, and the farts, I get frustrated having to mess around with my mask at 3:00 am when I have to get up at 6:00 am.

What I find helpful is knowing that things will get better.

I'm averaging perhaps 4.5 - 5 hours of use per night, and probably 7 hours of sleep - I tear it off without waking, even after two months of adapting.

I've had a few good nights of 8 hours, but couldn't really identify what the difference was.

My doctor told me today my average wasn't bad and to stick with it. I hope I eventually get up to the 7-8 hour norm folks are reporting; I think I'd feel pretty rested at that level.

According to Encore Analyzer, since I first started I'm averaging 9.7 hours per night, but I've got two bad data points -- one I forgot to put the card back in and it only recorded a 50 minute nap, and another I was messing with measuring leak rates for my masks and for some reason the next morning it showed no data (too many sessions?) so it recorded 19 minutes.

I don't sleep that much, I read for an hour or two wearing the mask when I go to bed...

When I'm asleep, I'm wearing it. 100% compliant for two years. The actual time varies greatly from 5 hours to 8 each night. The longest I've slept without "knowingly" waking up is five hours, but it's usually about three hours. But if possible (meaning It's not time to get up ) I'll go right back to sleep with the mask on. Even though still sleepy, if I try to go back to sleep after 8 hours, I just doze on and off, so I really don't count that as sleep.

Wow, 7.5 hours on average from people here. I would say the average is far, far lower if you were to look at all people prescribed an xPAP. Because in real life I had a friend who used his maybe four times a month (each time I'm sure he pulled it off within a few hours). And my friend's friend hardly ever used his either. Insurance wants the average to be over 4 hours, so they think 4 is not too bad.
Need to restart BiPAP therapy, never got adjusted enough. ResMed VPAP Auto with H3i humidifier, Mirage Quattro Full Face mask, ResScan 3.5. On paper, my Dx is OSAS, but it's probably UARS. Reduced amount of REM. Titrated at very low I/E pressures.

I wonder if the time wearing the mask may be less important than the actual sleep time during the mask wearing. While I wear it for 7.5 hours, I know that my actual amount of sleep while I wear it averages around 6 hours. There is a time between 3 and 4 am where I wake up, pee, and wait while the little gerbil in my mental map spins on its wheel until it final tuckers out and I go back to sleep. Regardless, I always feel better with the mask on than off.

I use it all night every night which is 7-8 hrs week days longer if I can sleep in on weekend. I too use it for naps. Now I still have a hard time if I have a bad cold being able to keep it on all night but I try, I figured I fried enough brain cells as a young adult I need to keep all I have now. Melinda
