Information for Tricare patients

Post by Islandangel1 » Sat Mar 14, 2009 8:29 pm

Just thought that I'd let all Tricare patients, active duty & retired, know about a provider that really takes care of your CPAP needs. The company is Optigen. You receive supplies every quarter, not every 6 months, like most other companies. They can also give you a "deployment" pack to last you throughout your deployment.

Just a bit of additional information...any DME can get you supplies quarterly under Tricare. Medicare pays for masks every three months and headgear every six. Many DME's assume that Tricare follows that schedule, but they don't. Tricare doesn't have a set schedule for supply replacement. They will pay for masks when they are "medically necessary." I've gotten masks and headgear from Apria and WalgreensOptionCare every three months with no problems getting them paid. DME's don't like that Tricare doesn't have a set schedule and you may have to get pushy with them...

Since my husband is retired, I didn't know about the deployment pack. I'm glad Tricare will cover that.

Nice to hear about the deployment pack. What all would you include in that? I'm heading off in a few months and will talk to my DME.

I get a new filter and nasal pillow and air tube every month. New mask every 3.

Optigen's Deployment pack has enough supplies to last you for your deployment. If you will be gone for 1 year you will receive 4 masks, 4 packs of the little white filters, 2 of the black square filters, 2 water chambers and 4 tubes/hoses. If your using a chinstrap you will get 2 of those. If the doctor requests a battery pack for you, then they will send a battery pack if your machine is compatible for use with a battery. But the battery pack is not automatic, they have to have an RX for that.
