I heard a rumor yet to be confirmed that Carnival is not allowing power strips unless you have a medical need like a CPAP...and of course they lend them. Don't quote me, but you may want to confirm.

I am going on a Princess cruise in Feb 2011 first time after three cruises with Carnival. From my understanding of folks on the cruisecritic forums that Princess allows power strips.

I haven't checked with Princess yet about distilled water!

I went on a two-week transatlantic cruise on Royal Caribbean in April. I brought my own extension cord and used purified bottled water (I ordered a case when I got onboard). I used the cruise to condition myself to using a CPAP and mask. If you gotta do it, you might as well have fun learning how. I concur with the advice the others have provided. Next time I'll ask special services for distilled water; it never occurred to me that it might be available.

Have fun on the HAL Alaska cruise. I did that one about three years ago.

Maybe we should schedule a CPAPtalk.com affinity group cruise! Before my last cruise I got to know a bunch of people from CruiseCritics.com. It really enhanced the cruise to have a bunch of friends on board.

Bev(OuttaSync) and I have tried to drum up some interest in a cpap group cruise. I even went to the Carnival and grabbed some space in October which is cpap awareness month. . There was little to no interest in going on a cruise. I finally gave my saved space over toanother cause.

OceangoingGal.....

Don't bother with the Distilled Water. Simply use tap water right out of the bathroom sink. Every morning, "swish" and rinse the humidifier tank out.....in other words, discard the water that's left over from one night's use. Refill with a fresh load of tap water every night.

As for the power cord, carry a 15' extension cord with two or three outlets on the output end....and that's all you need. In the event you'll be off the ship in a country that uses 220V, you should carry a bunch of adapter plugs that'll allow you to plug that extension cord into any type of wall outlet.

My wife and I just returned from a one week cruise .... Venice to Greece and back....both of us are hose-heads....and we ran both Cpap blowers off of one 15' lightweight extension cord. We dId not use distilled water on the ship....because we rinsed out the humidifier tanks every morning. At home, we use distilled water....and we don't bother to rinse the tanks every morning.

Not so much no interest, but personally I have to spend money right now on medical needs I have had to defer because of various emergency needs around me.....

I went on my first cruise this past Feb and loved it!! I was a 3rd person in the balcony cabin, and cost almost nothing!! I am hooked.....just poor at the moment.

About extension cords.......I brought a strip rated for electronics, not a simple brown or white household extension. I had called Special Services at Holland America, and they suggested I bring my own since they do not have an unlimited supply, and I needed safe access to proper electric while sleeping. I had space for it in my usual cpap carry bag, so it was no problem. No one commented on it during security either.....

At some time in the future I would be up for CPAP-folk cruise....or even other type of meet-ups
