Humidifer dries out too quick

Post by talktobon » Wed Mar 04, 2009 8:41 pm

I'm a newbie and my Remstar Auto M Series runs out of water within 3 hours. I've turned the setting down to 2 (from 3) and have been using another air humidifer like the DME suggested. It hasn't made a difference. My pressure is at 6. Has anyone experienced this? A CPAP friend said her tank is twice as big as mine, and I need to get a different machine because she thinks something's wrong with this one. I'm beginning to wonder.

Welcome aboard!
Are you having problems with moisture in your mask or hose? Are you experiencing dry mouth, throat or nose? Have you checked to see what the humidity is in your room? It may still be extremely low and their may be nothing wrong with your machine.

On a setting of 2, my M Series Auto Humidifier's water has lasted 12 hours. My average pressure is 16. Are you sure that you are filling it to the correct line?

On a setting of 2, my M Series Auto Humidifier's water has lasted 12 hours. However if I use a setting of 3 it is out of water (distilled) by morning (about 7 hours). I wonder what happens when you set it any higher?

I go to the clinician tomorrow and am going to ask a long list of questions the humidifier being one. I can't believe one can have so many minor problems with something so simple as a device blowing air into your face. Expecially since it has been on the market for years.

What is your leak rate like? Find out which machine your friend has.

I don't think I'm leaking at all. My mask is pretty comfortable and no air is coming out. I do have a dry mouth if I'm lucky enough to sleep for 2 hours. I only keep the machine on for 2-3 hours and then sleep without it the rest of the night. I have quite a bit of rainout in my mask which makes my nose itch! How do I get rid of that? According to my humidifer gauge, the humidity is in the "comfort zone." I'm filling it to the line that the DME showed me (I had him point it out to me to make sure), and he said I can't go any higher since the water will back up into the machine. My eyes have been dried out the past few days now, too.

talktobon, what about your room humidity? But you're right that it shouldn't do that. My Sandman's humidifier is designed to last 8 hours at setting of 10/10, I live in the desert but I can usually get two 7-8 hour nights out of it on a setting of 6. And I live in the desert and it's the middle of winter--average humidity this time of year is below 10%.

Does your machine show leak rate? Because a dry mouth suggests you're sleeping with your mouth open.

Tape or seal your mouth shut,or use a FF Mask. If the air doesn't stay in you closed airway, your treatment isn't working. Jim
