mask whistling, resmed mirage quattro

Post by cpap_bob » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:57 am

hello,
i have a resmed mirage quattro that loses its grasp on my face, principally along my cheek and sometimes the upper region of the bridge of my nose, when the air pressure hits the highest level where the therapist set it - 15.
can anyone recommend a way to prevent the mask from doing this? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
thank you.

Do a forum search on the word "Teflon" (as in "Teflon tape fix"). The majority of the Quattro masks leak out of the elbow that goes in the front of the mask and the other end that has the hose connector on it. Both ends probably need to be wrapped with Teflon plumbers tape......pull it apart, make about 3 - 4 wraps one each end and shove it back together.

Masks are very individualized, but I've used that mask for over a year. In my case, my skin is excessively oily and I've found the only way to make it "stick" is to scrub both the mask cushion and my face with liquid dishwashing detergent like Joy.

Even with that, often I will wake after a few hours and wipe it down with a tissue or towel by the bed for that purpose. I used to fuss with it and again a while later, etc. but now it's do it right once.

My straps are a bit tighter than suggested but I still can lift it away to seat the seal and it doesn't slip too much when turning which I do a lot.

It's going to be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end.

C.B. I have an ultra mirage nasal mask that whistles on occasion.

What happens in my setup is that the small omega-shaped clip that holds the swiveling elbow-shaped air inlet/outlet to the mask will resonate if not oriented correctly.

What works in my case is that I manually rotate the omega-shaped clip (just like dialing an older telephone) so that the opening faces up, toward the bridge of the nose. This breaks the resonance, and the whistling is no longer a problem.

Hope this is useful.
