adjusting to comfort curve

Post by momof3 » Tue Aug 02, 2005 2:37 pm

Hi -
I'm a new member but I've been lurking for weeks. You all are a fountain of valuable information and insight. I was diagnosed a few months ago and got my machine about 6 weeks ago. I've only successfully kept on a mask 2 nights in a row, although I do try every night. I got tired of my original mask (flexi fit nasal mask) and really wanted to try the comfort curve. So I ordered it, and have tried it a few times. But I cannot get it to stop leaking - nor is it comfortable. It seems to squeeze my face too much. I have a very full face and am wondering if it just isn't the right mask for a full faced gal. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions? The other mask that I want to try is the Infinity 481. Any thoughts there too? Thanks!

Hi momof3,

Welcome to the board!

Everyone's got their favorite masks. The ones I like best are:

Swift (nasal pillows)
Breeze (nasal pillows, not the "dreamseal")
Aura (nasal pillows)
Activa[ (nasal mask - covers the nose)

If you click the word "Search" at upper left of this page, then type in the word "Links" and my nickname for author's name, you'll turn up clickable links to a lot of good discussions pro/con about several different kinds of masks.

Hi Momof3, Welcome! I also tried the comfort curve recently and rejected it because it also "squished" my face and it hurt. I never even tried to sleep with it because it was so uncomfortable. I guess it only works for "skinny" faces.
I used the Infinity for a while and it was ok. My biggest complaint was that I had to adjust it alot during the night. I sleep on my side and when the tubing was pointing downward, the weight of it would dislodge the nasal prongs. I had to position myself "just so" and then fall asleep quickly before I moved and things got out of wack. When I would turn on my other side during the night, I would have to readjust everything. I switched to the Activa mask and have been most successful with that but I don't like all that "stuff" on my face. I've been trying to use the Infinity again, but I can't seem to get it to seal properly now and I don't know why. I've been reading threads that talk about switching to a larger size nasal prong so I think I'll give that a try.
I've also heard alot of good things about the Swift so I'll be trying that one soon too. Have you thought about using any different masks? This is the place to ask for info. before buying.
Take care, Amy
