Question for you "Computer Techies" out there

I cannot help but think purchasing a low-end, perhaps refurbished or used, Intel based box for the express purpose of running this software on would be a lot simpler rather than messing with emulators etc.

FYI

A dell XP cd will run on any machine. The biggest difference is that you will need a valid "Product ID", and it will require activation (you cahnge product key during activation)

A dell xp, or vista cd for that matter will install on a dell machine without activation.

Go somewhere like Tiger Direct or the likes and get a refurbished computer for CHEAP.

Boot Camp, Parallels and Fusion are all supported on campus (I work at a university) so all of those methods are "tried" like crazy... and I personally use VirtualBox on linux so I'm not sure how I left it out of the list. It works great on Ubuntu and since OSX is basically a (highly) modified BSD Darwin.... or at least it WAS.... then I would guess that VirtualBox would run well on it.

It's possible they may be giving you the disc and everything but the install code. It's also possible that the disk will look at your machine, notice it's not a Dell and say something like "This re-install will only work on a genuine Dell Optiplex Giga-Belch X," or something like: "We could not find your computer's Dell ID code. For instance: I have an old HP Athlon with windows 2000 on it, but it originally came with Windows Me. Once, I tried installing the Windows Me on another computer (since I no longer needed it on the HP), just for grins and giggles. It said it didn't recognize the machine as a genuine HP and wouldn't install. No skin off my nose, because Windows Me was terrible. Anyway, I'd make sure the disk will install on any computer before buying it.

I would like to know how you do. I am running my software on a Toshiba laptop. I have to get it out, and then hooked up to read my card. I would just like to use my MacBook.
I tried to install with a disk from an IT student (XP pro) but it wouldn't work. I love my MAC. The Toshiba would get a new home if I didn't need it for this one thing. No way would I go buy I PC just so I could run this one software. I could take my Mac to school and find a student to install it right. I just haven't had the time. Great deal on XP software. I've bookmarked it. Be sure you have backup before starting. Maybe over spring break I'll try again and then I can get rid of Toshiba.

Something to think about is slow times. We hear everywhere about programs for people who want to run Windows on a Mac, I can't remember ever hearing someone with a Windows machine wanting to run a Mac OS on Windows. I don't know the Windows to Mac user ratio in the world, but I'm pretty sure Mac comes out on lower on units in use.

For me I use a platform that supports the programs and services that I use daily, that's how I choose the systems I use. I don't have a problem getting anything I want to do done, because someone has a program written to do the task written for my machine, I don't have to reinvent the wheel to get what I want done. I just do it, and go on to the next task. Jim

Yep. You gotta put the whole "which one is better" aside and go with the one that runs the apps. That's just the way it is...

I switched from the windows world about two years ago, vmware fusion will let you run windows very well, including the apap software as well as the data software for the blood glucose meters.
