Getting cold air in the moring.

Post by N6CRV » Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:57 am

Hello, well here I go with another question. I have noticed that after about 5 hours I start getting what I would call cold air. I really noticed it this morning, it woke me up after 5 hours. I'm running the humidifier at a 1 or 2 and at the start of the night getting nice warm if not overly wet air. I have noticed that even at a "1" I seems to get very wet lips. But after a few hours I will wake up and I lose the good seal and the air seems very cold. The room it at around 67 deg and the bed it at 98 deg. {water bed). I think I could sleep longer if it was not for the cold air. Has anyone else ran into this and if so is there a fix? Thanks for the help!

I cannot speak directly to your machine/humidifier combination, but I would ask the following:
1) When you wake up, is there water remaining in the humidifier?
2) What heat level do you set on the humidifier?

If 1) is NO, then 2) may be too high and it is drying up and shutting off.

In that case, the solution might be to lower the humidifier heat level. Failing that, it may be you will need a stand-alone humidifier with a much larger capacity. I may also help to raise the ambient temperature in the room a few degrees.

Hello JimW203, yes there is still water in the humidifier about 1/3 left. I will try going up in the room heat some and see if that helps.

Hi LinkC, NO i'm going to stay here in Michigan. If I wanted warm Weather all year I would of stayed in Cal. Besides too many bugs in Fl.

Don,

As was stated in another thread, the humidifier does not 'heat' the air, it only adds moisture. Your machine does not sigfnificantly change the ambient air temperature. I suspect that you have the same situation that I do and that is a bedroom that cools significantly overnight. Mine is caused by a 'better half' that insists on two windows wide open every ngiht - in Indiana.

As stated above you could try raising the room temperature. Or you could try the use of a 'heated hose'. I haven't used one, and I am not sure just how much they actually warm the air. Most people use them to combat rain-out in the face.

Have you tried a hose cover? Maybe even a heated hose? Or the HC150 HH.

I know I can't sleep with the room that warm - I'd be sweating, but that is me.

Hello John, I think that is my trouble my Wife likes it cool in the bedroom. We heat during the day with wood and keep the bedroom closed off. A couple of hours before going to bed we turn a heater on in the bedroom and that must be why it starts out with nice warm air. I will try to leave the portable heater tonight if she does not see it.

Not so - they're mostly eaten by the lizards and frogs; those that are too big, are eaten by gators and other wild creatures.

Have you considered a dual control electric blanket? With that you could set your side independently and route the hose under it. It might not be terribly efficient, though. The heated hose may be the best option. Regarding the portable heater - unless it is electric and has very good safety features I doubt that it is a good idea. I have heard far too many horror stories of persons dying from carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty oil heaters.

Hello Jim, the heater is electric, one of the ones filled with oil. I would worry about the electric blanket that one of our cats would decide to chew on it and be a fried cat. I have enough trouble keeping the holes plugged in the bed from them. You know the blanket might not be all that bad (just kidding)

Did I read that right - your bed is at 98 degrees.

Yes between 98 and 100. It is a water bed and if it is not near body temp you freeze. We have tried turning it down in the Summer but end up sore from the cold water.

Just pull the hose under the covers with you.

I've only used a water bed once, many many years ago, and i was an invitee so I didn't think about temperature.

When you explain it, it all makes sense

Hi Don.I see your from Michigan. I live between Houghton Lake & Oscoda. Being a Michigander, you know about the cold. I pre-heat my tank water in a (1) cup measuring cup in the microwave about 15 min. before I go to bed. That gives me warmer air so I can get to sleep. I run my humidifier on 4. I also tuck the hose under the covers with me, that kinda keeps things warm. I too sometimes wake up with the cold air. Pre-heating your water helps at the start of the night. Hope this helps you. Thanks, Larry
