Dry Mouth/Throat
I have used a CPap for 10 yrs. I recently had WL surgery and have lost about 50 lbs. I have not had a sleep study in almost 2 years, but my doc did adjust my cpap down. As of late, I wake up so dried out that I feel my throat is closing up. I have a humidifyer on my machine but that is not helping. What am I doing to have this problem? I don't think I'm opening my mouth? Thanks for any help.
Re: Dry Mouth/Throat
Alapride, if you go ahead and register and list your equipment and pressures, it will help us help you. First thought is even though you think you are not, you are leaking through the mouth at night.
What machine, mask and pressures do you have? Is your machine data capable, and if so, do you have the software to look at your data?

Re: Dry Mouth/Throat
Check the humidity in your room it may be low and a humidifier won't make up for a very dry room. I also agree with DebJax you probably don't even notice it but your mouth must be open.

Re: Dry Mouth/Throat
alapride,
Welcome to the wonderful, exciting world of... MOUTH BREATHING.
I just started on CPAP therapy two weeks ago, and while my numbers are good, my mouth gets parched every night. I am retraining my mouth to stay closed, but it doesn't always want to cooperate, especially when I'm in deep sleep.
I would suggest trying Biotene OralBalance Gel, which I put in my mouth before I go to bed. It helps me a lot, but other it does nothing.
Also, I purchased a chinstrap from RipVW (user on here) that should arrive any day now. Hopefully, that will help keep my mouth closed even better.
Good luck, and don't forget to register on here and fill out your equipment list!
