Humidifier problems

Okay, so this may be a stupid quiestion, but I've searched and haven't been able to find the answer. Maybe there's another solution I'm not thinking about. When I sleep, I have to sleep with the room fairly cool. I usually keep it around 65 degrees. Even with the humidifier on the lowest setting I still get rain-out in the mask and hose and end up waking up several times to have to take the mask off and drain the excess water off. I have the hose covers and even covers on the mask hose and also keep the hose elevated well above my head and come back down to my mask. I also have the machine about a foot lower than the top of the bed. Don't know what else to do. Really about the only problem I haven't been able to solve.

So my stupid question is this. If I leave the humidifer heater off, will I get any benefit at all from it if I leave the tank full, or does the heater have to be on to give you any benefit? I can't stand having the air coming into my mask warm at all. It just seems suffocating to me and I end up taking the mask off every night when its been too warm. Love the cool air and sleep MUCH better, but also need the moisture, especially at the moment. If anybody has any thoughts, they would be much appreciated. I know there has to be a solution with all of the experience on here.

this is one of those YMMV but my experience

I use about an ounce of water a night with no heat on humidifier

I use about 6 ounces a night with heat on level 3 (remstar tank)

Oh I hate using either one but was told to humidify my sinuses more and no heat wasn't enough.

I also prefer to sleep in a cooler room. And am a newbie to CPAP.

After a little experimentation, what now works for me is:
- my hose is no longer hung over the headboard.
- I keep the hose under the blanket
- the CPAP is about 6" below the mattress

no rainout. (I use a nasal mask -- found the swift LT to be uncomfortable.)

And I use the heated hose - it doesn't result in warm air - it feels like "normal" air instead of a blast from the freezer. And no rain out.

Haven't used it myself but some folks love the "Aussie" heated hose. Have you tried it?

After reading lottsa posts on this forum, I'm going out to my local snake/reptile vivarium to purchase a "Zoo Med Repti Heat Cable" to insert in my hose. Sounds like a nifty $14 solution instead of the $$ Aussie hose.
