A week on the hose hanger

Post by elader » Fri Feb 20, 2009 12:08 pm

Just thought I would give the topic a bump. Have this hose hanger thing set up at home now and the most remarkable thing happened. I slept 8.5 hours without waking up even once for a toss-n-turn. Well, that's a new one for me. Prior to hose management, every time I turned, I had to reposition the hose. Clock said 10:30 pm ...... clock says 7AM... huh?

Anyone out there without a hose hanger - you need to seriously think about getting or building one.

And here's a ton of ideas on how to do what Elader suggests:

My hose departs the mask from my nose, straight up above my head and over the headboard. Its never in the way. I guess my headboard is acting as a hanger (6" above my head) and a slight force of hose gravity on the back side of the headboard keeps the hose somewhat taut, while at the same time it doesn't pull the hose too forcibly away from the mask. There is a few feet of play behind the headboard in case I move my head laterally.

My problem is the mask changes position, and consequently leaks, when I move my head. Last two nights though I've been pretty tight with few wake-ups and tons of dreaming. Rock on!

I did get a hose hanger. In fact I got one for traveling too once I used the one at home. I too found that I wasn't waking up as much from the hose bothering me.
On the other hand if you have kids who like to get a giggle out of scaring you awake try to remember you have a hose attached to your face and that hose it tied to a hose holder. If you forget you will come close to whiplash and the kids will have a long laugh.

Wonder which hose management system to get for home use:
HoseBuddy https://www.cpap.com/productpage/HoseBu ... ystem.html or
Hose Lift https://www.cpap.com/productpage/flexib ... -lift.html or
Hozer https://www.cpap.com/productpage/hozer- ... ution.html or

I am leaning towards the Hose Lift system because it seems minimalist and functional and easy to collapse (even partially while in place under mattress to tidy the bedroom). The Hozer seems elegant and ingenious but seems too complicated and occupies so much room volume since the other two would seem to accommodate you head where it usually is in 3-dimensions: almost directly under the hose management system, at mattress + pillow height and up near the headboard.

You know, every time this comes up, I bring up the cheapest, easiest solution and no one ever listens to me. You really wouldn't think it would work, looking at the pictures online - but it does, and beautifully. And it's perfect for travel. And it costs less than $5. And you can move it anywhere you want without damaging your walls.

I will once again post this, and folks will once again not listen and pay WAY more for something that doesn't really work any better...and the world will keep right on spinning. LOL

I sleep on a futon (not the American-style wooden contraption, just a thin mat on the floor) so I can't get one of the ones that involve sticking pipes/etc under my mattress. I jury-rigged something for tonight using a guitar stand and a coiled telephone cord. If I find that sleeping with my hose up helps (I am waking up with it wrapped around various appendages), I'll look for something that I can travel with (and that doesn't require wedging between the mattress and box spring).

Let me suggest the "NEW" CozyHoze Boss http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/produ ... ategory=11 . . . . . As a tester of this product --- I just returned from a trip to New York with different sleep locations every night and these little gadgets worked like a CHAMP!.

I'll be taking off to Utah Wed. & these CozyHoze Boss fit into your pocket and work "if the walls are cement or shingles" ----
Note: "I flip around while sleeping like a fish out of water!"

Good Luck... Sleeping on the hose is never easy!

I have one too, just have to try one variable at a time.

I am going out to try to find them at my local Ace hardware store now ! And, if they work sub-optimally I may try the also very minimalist Hose Lift https://www.cpap.com/productpage/flexib ... -lift.html.

But, I am optimistic that your home-made solution will work because I got a lot of benefit already last night from just putting the hose above my pillow (between headboard and pillow). you would have thought I would have tried that on my own, but did not until I read it here (yeah for cpaptalk.com). Also, your system is virtually identical to the "NEW" CozyHoze Boss http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/produ ... ategory=11 . . . . . discussed above (and at a fraction of the price).
