Headrest - we've found a winner...

The Mirage Swift LT is going back... It is a GREAT mask and just this morning I gave it 5 stars. But the design of the Headrest makes for better side sleeping IMO. Kind of sucks that I have to make a modification to the Headrest in order to use it, but that's the way it goes sometimes...

First off, Gerald has some great pictures to show how to make some modifications to all but eliminate the leaks, and I used those to kind of back into a really simple solution.

I have a Respironics chin strap that I bought because about every other night I wake up with air rushing out my mouth. The chin strap has one piece that goes under your chin and wraps around the top of your head, and an additional strap with velcro that you attach to the main piece and run around the back of your head.

What I do is put the main strap of the chin strap under my chin and on top of my head, and then put on the Headrest "cap". This is plenty to keep the chin strap in place. Then I run the velcro around the FRONT of my face and use it to secure the Headrest back towards my head at the base about an inch above the vent holes. This places the strap right above my eye line so there is no interference with my reading. So easy and it doesn't take much tightness to pull the mask back and keep it stable.

This works perfect for me. I have my Headrest with no leaks, I can side sleep very easily with still no leaks, and I have a chin strap holding my mouth closed and securing the Headrest so it will maintain a tight seal.

Another plus is my kids find it hilarious and once again have renewed laughter over my plight in life...

I was wondering if one could just buy the repacement parts for the Headrest consisting of the nose piece and tubing, instead of buying the whole mask and headpiece and then deconstructing it. Would that even work?

They sell the nasal pillow seals (the part that hangs off the frame), which just pop off and on for cleaning...

I don't see where they sell any other parts. All I plan on replacing on any kind of regular basis is the pillow seals part...

On that note, if anyone wants to swap a large for a medium, shoot me a PM and I'll send the medium your way...

Good thought, Bev, but wouldn't work. The exhaust vent is necessary, and it's not located in either of those replacement parts. The exhaust vent is in hard plastic, located below the front of the headgear's "lockbox" looking thingy.

The "deconstructed" mask (headgear and box removed) retains the hard plastic front where the vent is. Vent is located up high, almost at hairline. The connector tube starts from the top of the hard plastic. The silicone horseshoe shaped nasal pillows assembly clicks onto the bottom of the hard plastic.

Okay, that makes sense. I couldn't tell where the exhaust vents were from the picture. I'm trying to figure out a cheaper way to try it. I haven't had any luck with any of the pillow styles, I think my nares are too slotted.
