I am re-posting this from a "Help a Reporter Out" list to which I subscribe. This is a query from a freelance reporter who is looking for stories about "curious ways to stop snoring."
I am posting it here b/c I know that snoring is a potential red flag for sleep apnea, and that people who snore should likely be screened for sleep apnea, prior to (or in addition to) searching for "curious ways" to stop snoring. I thought the reporter might benefit from responses from this community. What say you?
Here's the query:

have found unusual sleep solutions. Thanks, Laurie

Re: Query from reporter: "Curious ways to stop snoring"
Well this is a CPAP forum so most all folks around here use CPAP. It may seem curious to those unfamiliar with CPAP but it is a life line for those of us with apnea.
Most folks think apnea is just a snoring problem or bad sleep problem. It is much more than that. It causes hypoxemic hypoxia (Google that one) and it puts a tremendous stress on the body ... the organs, endocrine system, cardiovascular system, and brain. It kills slowly just like diabetes and is also strongly correlated with diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and obesity.
Apnea kills. Snoring is just one of many symptomatic expressions of apnea.

DS - I got it. I actually think the reporter should hear that from a bunch of people, and this is the bunch from whom those people would come.
Re: Query from reporter: "Curious ways to stop snoring"
If I remember correctly this was a desperate attempt to breathe rather than stop snoring, but didn't someone once say on here that they pushed a tube down the side of their throat?
Since a number of cpap users were aware of a snoring problem before being diagnosed with OSA, there may be some interesting stories of failed efforts to keep peace in the house prior to cpap. Wonder if the stories should be called, "Sad But True" or "Too Funny to Not Laugh"?
Hope that writer's article will reflect the fail rate.

I found that a panty hose completely stops my snoring.

Now if I can just find something to stop the drooling.
