Cleaning Aussie Heated Hose

I know this has probably been discussed before, but for those of you with the Aussie hose, how do you clean it (or do you )?

Pam, once a week I just put a little ivory in the tube, add water, swish for a while, then run tapwater through the hose until the suds are gone. Once a month, I might add a tablespoon of vinegar to the mix. And if I'm feeling particularly cautious about allergies, I'll do a final rinse with distilled water. I hang the hose over a shower rod in a seldom-used bathroom for a few hours then run air through it to dry. If the ends get wet, don't turn the hose on until they're dry.

Thanks, Raj, sounds like a good system. I've always been leery of putting water in it, I guess because it's electric and has the coils down in there. I guess they're embedded (or whatever) in the actual hose though. I'll just make sure it has more than ample time to dry.

These are the cleaning directions they e-mailed me about two years ago. Since I never bought the Aussie hose, I have no direct experience with it.

CLEANING : clean ONLY the interior of the SleepZone heated CPAP tube (DO NOT immerse the tube) the simplest method is to use 2 small plastic bags or cling film secured with rubber bands … after adding a small amount of water or highly diluted disinfectant eg (mouthwash) secure the ends with the plastic bags and “slosh” the liquid around inside the tube . Rinse in the same manner then hang to drain and dry. Sponge clean the outside insulating cover as required. Cleaning CPAP tubing is a personal Hygiene matter. Some users rarely clean their tubing.

Interesting. You'd think they'd send cleaning instructions/recommendations with the hose when purchased, too. Thanks, Greyhound.

How do I clean it? I don't! It's fine without cleaning it, I have found. Right, Rested Gal?

I've had my Aussie hose for over 2 years. In the beginning I'd clean it weekly. After reading about equipment cleaning here I decided not to do it any more. It's not been cleaned for about a year and a half. I've not had any problems.

Aussie heated hose comes with instructions on cleaning.

I did get directions sent with my purchase.

I bought a hose conector that I use for cleaning my hoses--just fill with hot soapy water, connect the hose ends together with the connector, then swish away. Leave it to soak for awhile, then rinse with hot water. Works great! cpap.com sells them:
