gluing the mask on
Re: gluing the mask on
okay - didn't know my name was even in this thread until I decided to look at it
t shirt gasket - once you have a pattern that works either make a paper one or don't use the fabric one -
viewtopic.php?p=333261#p333261
but actually I got the idea originally from this
viewtopic.php?t=2754
btw - I start with rectangular pieces of tshirt but I do cut off the top corners to have it not in my eyes(this shape is what you need the pattern for) - I lie it on the face, put the mask on while on back, then pull the edges of the cloth out to smooth it out -

Re: gluing the mask on
Maybe wax paper would work? I'm going to try that too.

Re: gluing the mask on
I had the silicone strips on my FP432 last night. I got it all nice and stuck on my face then turned the machine on and it was leaking all over the place! So I peeled it off my face then off the mask. It made no sense because it was incredibly sticky, seemed airtight to me. Well I put the mask back on and it wasn't leaking so I just went to sleep.
Eventually I realized that it is not leaking around the area that touches my face, it is leaking around the area where the cushion comes together with the hard plastic of the mask. This mask is not designed well (what mask is???), there's nothing to really anchor the cushion in there and when you lie down or turn over it can get nudged out of place and start leaking.
I didn't realize all this until this until 6am when it blew a huge leak and woke me up. So tonight I'm going to try putting the silicone in where the cushion sits.
Oh btw, I tried the wax paper briefly. Wax paper sticks to skin really well. I'm not sure how well it sticks to the mask, but it's worth a try since it's really cheap.

Re: gluing the mask on
The silicone putty to keep the cushion held in worked well. It did not stop this mask from leaking, though. I'd probably have to make it even tighter, which is uncomfortable. The biggest problem seems to be that it lays on my eyes, even moreso than the quattro. The main reason I wanted to use this mask was because the foam is very comfortable and I like the cup under the chin because the quattro is destroying my bottom front teeth. Oddly, I still wake up with those teeth aching so maybe the FP doesn't mitigate that as much as I thought it would. I woke up early this morning and felt really claustrophobic and desperate to get that thing off my face. I think tonight I'm going to sleep with the simplicity, sometimes I get really sick of a FFM. I can't usually sleep the whole night with a nasal mask, though, unless by some miracle my sinuses clear up
Also, just FYI, if you use eye lash glue on your mask, the stink doesn't wash out.

Re: gluing the mask on
Here's a product that was talked about on the forum some time ago. I've used it and it worked for me. It's made for dive masks. I didn't notice any negative effects to myself or the mask from using this.

Brenda, does this have any type of odor to it? Do you use it every night?bdp522 wrote:Here's a product that was talked about on the forum some time ago. I've used it and it worked for me. It's made for dive masks. I didn't notice any negative effects to myself or the mask from using this.

Nobody, any luck yet? I'm looking to raise my pressure from 8.5 to 9 because my vibratory snores have been on the increase over the past several months, and I'm more tired that I was before (thinking the increase in snores may be messing with my sleep). I'm already having leak issues where I didn't used to have much problem. Don't know what's going on. Got a new mask and had to go back to the old oral cushion because that "new" smell was making me cough. (Don't know why this one smells so strong to me, none of the others did.) Was able to use the new nasal pillows in my old oral cushion, though. Just let them air out for a while, I guess. (I really feel like a whip having a problem going to 9 when I just found out my newly-diagnosed husband's pressure is 19!)

Re: gluing the mask on
I did manage to get from 8.5 to 9, yeah. I still have some trouble with it, though. That is a good idea about the mask seal for scuba gear. I'll have to see if I can get some of that. I dunno what kind of new mask you got, but I noticed I can't tolerate the gel masks at all because the smell is so awful. 19, eesh. That's high.

Re: gluing the mask on
I don't like the gel masks either; mine's a Hybrid. I've never noticed the odor being that strong before when I first start using a new one. Eh, probably just me, I'm so sensitive to any and all smells, good or bad! When you say you're still having some trouble with 9, is it the leaks, or getting use to the higher pressure? Good to hear you're managing with it, though.nobody wrote:I did manage to get from 8.5 to 9, yeah. I still have some trouble with it, though. That is a good idea about the mask seal for scuba gear. Re: gluing the mask on
I'm having trouble with both breathing out against the pressure (even with CFLEX) and with leaks.

Re: gluing the mask on
You may have already done this, but did you up your C-Flex setting from the 2 you have in your profile? I have mine set at 2 as well.nobody wrote:I'm having trouble with both breathing out against the pressure (even with CFLEX) and with leaks.

Re: gluing the mask on
I used the mask seal everynight for some time(many months) and never noticed an odor. I use a different mask now and don't need to use it any longer.

Re: gluing the mask on
Yeah I had mine on 3 for a while, but to be honest I don't notice any difference between 2 and 3. Sometimes I'm not sure that the machine is even sensing my breathing at all, maybe because there's so much space in a FFM. But the air swallowing has been better since turning it back down to 2, so maybe there is a difference. I'm really not sure. It's hard to figure all this stuff out

Re: gluing the mask on
Has anybody tried coating the seal with a thin layer of honey? It doesn't stink, it is water soluble, it is sticky, and it is readily available. (I haven't tried it yet, but I probably will before too long.)

Re: gluing the mask on
I don't think honey is the kind of sticky that you'd want, but I suppose it's worth a shot. At least it might taste good if it doesn't work out. Of course, the bee dreams might be kinda scary
