choice of CPAP

Post by araminta » Fri Feb 13, 2009 6:27 pm

I've just been diagnosed with moderate apnea. I used the loaner M-series with the 407 flexifit mask for a week, and fortunately had no problems.

I am a frequent traveler (for work), so size & weight is a consideration. I'm considering the Resmed S8Autoset II.
A friend is happy with the Goodknight 420E, which I believe is a slightly older model.

I'm curious to hear any observations/thoughts about the choice.

Thanks.

I am biased, but . . .

I would, and did go with the Resmed. No power brick! Small, light and very easy to travel with. I would also suggest you step up to the AutoSet II. The extra cost over the life of the machine will be negligible.

Do you know what your pressure will be, did you have any centrals?

No centrals.
After a week of a trial run on the Remstar Auto M, if I understand all these #'s correctly:

average pressure: 6.4
average device pressure: 8.0
average AHI: 3.0

Thanks.

If something is working for you, my advice would be to stick with it. An AHI of 3.0 means you are getting great therapy, and the M Series autos seem to be well liked on the forum. Since this machine and mask are working for you, make them your permanent choices and work up a travel kit that will let you pack it up and take it with you. Or if you have an extra few hundred bucks keep the M Series Auto at home as your main and buy a second machine (either the same or a smaller more travel friendly one) out of pocket for travel. If you fly, be sure to keep your CPAP with you as your carry-on so it doesn't get lost. Good luck!

The Covidien Sandman Auto is the new generation of PB 420E. It is very light.
Another reason for you consider it is its sophisticated humidifier. With low pressure, we tend to get more rainout in our hose/mask and the Sandman humidifier handles that better than most.

Hi--I am at a pressure of "7" and love my RESMED S 8 ELITE!! I travel with a Resmed ESCAPE which is the same machine as the Elite but is not data capable. The machine is light and the humidifier attaches right onto the machine to make it a very nice compact unit that will fit nicely on any nightstand. The Resmed has a very good reputation for reliablity but each of us have their own opinons on machines--LOL! Good Luck!! Pick a good one!!!
