CPAP lower than head?

Does CPAP have to be lower than head and if so, why? I asked DME technician about this and she said no, it doesn't have to be. Mine is about equal or an inch or two above my head. I drape the hose around the back of the headboard so it comes down to my nose, and this keeps the hose out of the way when I roll over. Everything seems to be working fine for me so far, outside of mask leaks.

The only reason (well, 2 resons) to keep it lower that your head, in my experience:
1. so you don't pull it down your head.
2. to keep the sound of the motor further away.

In my experience, it has no impact on rainout.

I'm convinced that lowering my machine has helped with rainout. HOWEVER.... every weekend I sleep on a futon mattress on the floor, and the machine is only slightly lower, as it sits on a plastic cutting board on the carpeted floor next to my head.

Rainout not an issue.

HOWEVER, the weekend sleeping arrangement is much warmer than the daily sleeping arrangement. Ambient air temperature, I mean.

I think ambient air temperature can affect rainout far more significantly than lowering your machine.

But I still try to keep my machine lower.

And I still pray every single time I think I'm gonna get hit on the freeway.

If its only a rainout issue, I don't have one. Perhaps that is because Angelina likes the room temp at 70 degrees in winter, 75 in summer.

I read somewhere of people having good success with the machine being up above. I don't have anywhere near my bed to put my machine up higher than my head. In the sleep study, the machine was elevated, but that's probably for convenience of the tech.

My tiny nightstand being lower than the bed, automatically put my CPAP lower than my head. Though I moved it further down, mainly because it blocks the bright blue lights. I had hoped it would cut noise, but it didn't.

I had gotten a hose hanger to try to deal with rainout....which it maybe it did or maybe it didn't. I didn't experience gurgling after it (but I also got a hose cover the same time as the hose hanger)....but it would still spritz me with water at night.
