i have an elite 2 . i usually use a custom cpap tap. i have zero leakage but high ahi (around 10-16). when i use my old swift opti lite nasal pillow mask i have high leakage (.16---.36) but a much better ahi (around 5.5) how can this be? i thought high leakage corresponded to high ahi rates? i want to use my cpap tap because it is much more comfortable. would changing my pressure get me a lower ahi? if so should i increase or decrease it.?

I know Resmed make the Swift but if the entry in the Elite's menu doesn't exactly match the model of mask, the machine may and can report leakage when there may be none.

I would expect the Elite II to have the Swift LT on its choices - does it show ?

DSM[/quote my machine is set to a swift mask. the nasal pillows are definitely leaking, but i really don't care because this is just my back up mask. what i really want to figure out is how to get the cpap tap into the right ahi range. i am a new cpap user 4 months and am getting pretty disgusted trying to chase the elusive good nights sleep

Perhaps it was a typo and means a "cpap cap", not sure what that is either.

hi

sorry i'm relatively new to cpap and don't always realize what is common or not. but a cpap tap is sort of like a retainer with a short bar that sticks out of the mouth and holds the nasal pillows. i consistantly have zero leakage. there are no straps and thus no marks on my face. these are all good things. it is quite comfortable and i want to keep using it ----i just need to figure out how to reduce my ahi. does anybody know if increasing the pressure will reduce the # af ahi?

TAP-PAP
For some, like the most severe cases, a MAS is insufficient, or the side effects are a medical concern. Then a CPAP machine is necessary to open the airway. The most prevalent problem for people who have to have a CPAP is the leakage of the mask and the constriction of the holding straps. The TAP-PAP is the answer for these people. The TAP can be converted to a TAP-PAP so that the nasal pillows can be connected to the oral device. No more straps and no more leakage. The mouth splints will be connected to put the jaw in a slightly forward position so that the CPAP pressure can be lowered to a more comfortable level. The assembly is attached to the skull base by the oral appliance so there is no shifting of the interface. This eliminates all the obstacles to a comfortable experience with the CPAP.

Neither do I.
You sound terribly terribly confused, apostel. ( Maybe you should speak to the docotor who supplied you the cpap tap that has no straps, and you old "swift opti lite" mask. Those are the names of three masks, you see, and you are so confused, that I doubt you would be able to undestand any of the advice we gave you - bad confusion can happen to people with sleep apnea. You really need someone to help you face to face.

I don't even see how this would even work to hold a pillow mask so I agree with ozij and suggest you contact your dentist who sold you this device and ask them your technical questions.

I wouldn't even know how to start to interpret LED data with this combo.

Good find, WearyOne. That seems to be "it", described as the TAP CAP on that page. I couldn't find any pictures of the actual device though.
