hose up less mask leaks

Post by vaderboi » Wed Feb 11, 2009 1:42 pm

I'm a newbie, and I noticed other newbies with mask leaks. I figured out that with my hose up above the mask, I have less mask leaks. With the hose below my mask, it tends to pull the mask a little and contribute to leaks. We don't have a headboard, so I ordered a hose stand.

I have the Quattro. Just thought I'd share if it helped someone out. I'm sure other people have discovered this as well.

On a separate note, I'm also going to switch to either a zzz full face mask or a hans rudolph, as the forehead piece on the quattro sits on a nerve in my forehead that makes my head tingle the next day. Anyone have success with those masks? Or experience the same nerve tingling problem?

I like to route the hose overhead too.

For new readers, here's a link to pics of ways several people have rigged up hose hangers:

The Quattro is such a good FF mask (as is the Ultra Mirage FF) I'd be inclined to try to "fix" the way the forehead piece sits rather than trying other FF masks. Have you tried slipping a piece of something like a makeup pad or a folded kleenex under the mask's forehead piece? Perhaps just a very small something might completely change the way it rests against that nerve in your forehead.

I hadn't even noticed whether my mask leaked before I realized I hated rolling over on the hose - The first couple nights, just having the hose laying on my body or tangled in the quilts was more bothersome than the mask itself.

My set-up at home hangs from the curtain rod above the window above my bed; when traveling, so far I've improvised - lots of solutions in RG's thread.

I found a portable hose hanger, CPAP Hose Lift by Hi-Tech Medical , light weight, folds down to nothing comes with a little bag and fits in the cpap travel case like it's not even there....a whole lot cheaper than others I've found, about $25.00 bucks....and works really well.
