Please post input on my Sandman report

Post by MrSandman » Sun Feb 08, 2009 1:12 pm

Hi - This is what my typical Sandman report looks like except some nights I only have a total of around 50 AH centrals and very little pressure change. You see how it is harder to tell what made the pressure increase compared to Encore? It is harder to me. So why with so many centrals reported do I feel better than I ever did with any other machine? My sleep report had very few centrals and usually upon changing position. Pressure set at 12-15 , max command on apnea = 15, command on IFL = on, Pressure change = Slow.

Thanks- Mike

Wow. Beats me. What is the number of your obstructive events?

One possible explanation is that you may simply be a slow breather (?), and the Sandman records a central when you pause between breaths. But then I suppose the pros will say that at a certain point, "slow" becomes too slow, and should be treated...
SilverLining - in the export - gives the number of normal cycle breaths, intemediate cycle, and flow limited cycle. By adding them and dividing the total by minutes you can get your breath's per minutes.

Looks like these central events are the equivalent of the variable breathing Respironics got for you -- you must be a very original breather...

This is from your "Post PSG" posting:
So this morning a different RPSGT unhooked me and said I did real good. I know when I woke up I had a nasal pillow leak so I was surprised they hadn't come in to fix it. She said my final pressure was 15 and Cflex of 3. I feel tired right now and my chest feels congested. I told her I have a AHI of 6 or more at home at 15 and she said it could be reading other things besides apneas. She said they noticed when I change positions it takes me a while to settle down and I have a lot of centrals but they have a special name for these types of central and I didn't hear her. I think she said they aren't real centrals. They are centrals that only happen when you change positions. She said when I moved I would have more leaks from my lips and have these centrals until I settled which took longer than usual but once I settled all was fine. So she said my machine may be counting these centrals as apneas and inflating the AHI

It's good that you're feeling better; If you're concerned, get a pulse oxemeter.

O.

Thanks O - I remember posting that but funny thing is on my PSG report which I posted somewhere and got no replys on (ticked off too many of the "experts" ) it shows only a central or two but even the Dr. said I had some centrals like it was more than one or two but she wasn't concerned about them. Oh well, I will play around a little more and see what I get but as long as I FEEL the difference I am happy. I can't seem to sell these machines so I will play around with all of them and see what I get and which one for sure makes the most difference in how I feel. The tiny Sandman is going with me to the Dakota's in the morning. It is the smallest and lightest to travel(fly) with when including the humidifier.

Hey did the 420 E have a service menu where you could adjust blower pressure? The sandman came set at 1988 but I think it is where you would hook up a device(manometer) to calibrate the output? Anyway - it is easy to change so I would be careful if you have the Sandman especially since nothing explains what it does.

Also, I would like to know more about the circuit calibration that one can run? It makes a huge difference in how the machine functions with say the Swift LT if I run calibrate versus going with the standard setting from the factory.

OH - I got my two new full face masks and should have bought the return insurance... I can't get the hybrid to seal good especially around the mouth for anything and the Zzzz FFM farts like crazy and will not keep a seal at my pressures although it is a neat and simple mask. So far the Swift LT and chin strap are working the best for me. Looks like I will have to go with a DME cause I can't afford to lose anymore money trying out masks. I will be selling these two at a loss...

Hey Browser, I don't know if you've posted on other forums or not. This is the only one I've posted on in years and I've noticed that sometimes posts get lots of replies and sometimes few or none. Please try not to take it personally. I've noticed that timing makes a big difference as does pure chance. I doubt very much that it was personal. I've posted sometimes with great responses and other times -- nada.

Ha - You don't understand - I know I ticked off some of the more technically knowledgable people here and therefor they don't offer any advice. I bit the hand that feeds me so to say... I was stating fact and I don't blame them.

I haven't ever posted on this type of forum before but I have on some hobby forums where I was more popular and didn't piss anyone off...

Browser, I think most people on this forum are forgiving and believe in second chances. Any of us can tick someone off without intending to or if we are in a sleep deprived mood. I think you're ok and I really like all the neat avatars you use.

If you keep getting so many centrals I think you should get another sleep study done as you may need adapt server ventilator machine. Maybe Ozji, dsm, sws, or Still another guest, will step in regarding such a high number of centrals. I hope so.

Hello - OTP - I just had a sleep study and in light of my possible unemploment soon, I don't think I will get another soon. Thanks for the kind comments. I think I am getting a little better but have a way to go. Here I am needing to catch a plane at 630am which means I need to get up at 330am and I can't sleep. I also have a lot of trouble sleeping in new places so I have been dreading this week. Nothing like being relied upon to do a job and showing up in a fog and looking like death warmed over!

Do your best to give your hotel room a familiar pleasant smell - a few drops of you aftershave sprinkled in the room? Your favorite among your wife's perfumes?
