1st year over!!! Repti-cord ?? Hose cover??
1st year over!!! Repti-cord ?? Hose cover??
I'm about to pass my first year of treatment in a few days and can't say enough about how the people on this board have helped me all along the way. Bret's products have been extremely helpful to me and has made a huge difference in how things have been going. So he gets a big thanks.
This winter I have had a cold air problem for me and for my husband who has been complaining of all that cold air blowing on him. So I searched the board for information on the Repti-cord solution. I just recieved it and used it last night.I used paper tape to afix it. My question is... how do I wrap it around my hose. Do I lay it along one side or wrap it around the hose? I am going to make a hose cover today and also wonder how tight I need to have it on my hose? I would like it to be easy to put on and take off if possible.
Thanks,
Brooke

Congrats on your Anniversary
You can run the repti wire just straight right along the hose. If wrapped do so very loosely because if the wire touches itself it will melt your hose, so I think straight is more better <smile>.
For the hose cover - the tighter you make the cover the less flexible your hose will be. If you make it one long tube it becomes much more difficult to insert your hose. So you may want to make it a bit wider and use velcro straps in several (more than you would think) spots to hold the cover together. More spots cuz when the hose bends the cover will bow out away from the hose.
I have also used the repti-cable w/o a hose cover successfully. So Gumby doesn't think it really needs to be so tight it will cut off your air supply.
ps. the Repti-cable is best used with a timer so you do NOT forget to unplug it when not in use. If you don't have one get one NOW.

Re: 1st year over!!! Repti-cord ?? Hose cover??
I've done nothing special with the hose cover...just tighten the elastic/velcro straps at the ends to hold it in place. I then snaked the Repti-Cord inside the cover. With the end of the cord just poking out the end with the same strap holding it in place.

Right now I have a remote switched plug (used to control the light behind my sofa) so I can turn it on and off. But, I plan to slip in a timer to keep me covered when I forget to turn it off in the morning....

So you don't have the cord fastened to the hose itself and it doesn't flip-flop around inside the hose cover? I see it is attached at the end but are there any other places that you do attach it to?
Thanks for the info and photo,
Brooke

You can if you like. Use tape, rubber bands, string, whatever or nothing at all. It will still warm the hose and prob better to secure in 2 or 3 spots.bap40 wrote:So you don't have the cord fastened to the hose itself and it doesn't flip-flop around inside the hose cover? Well, its been working, so I haven't had the need...though the hose does go up and over, so maybe that helps stabilize things. My machine is stashed inside my nightstand to shield the lights and an attempt to cut the noise.... The cord does also put out quite a bit of heat.

Re: 1st year over!!! Repti-cord ?? Hose cover??
Thought I would update what I use for controlling my Repti-cord now.TheDreamer wrote:Right now I have a remote switched plug (used to control the light behind my sofa) so I can turn it on and off. But, I plan to slip in a timer to keep me covered when I forget to turn it off in the morning....
For those wondering what a remote switched plug that I mentioned is....its this:

I had purchased a wall timer a couple weeks ago, but hadn't gotten around to slipping it in. When I recently picked up a table top timer...which I was at first going to slip in as the wall timer, when I realized that It works better replacing the remote cord.

I only have a single off event programmed into the timer. I can use the nice big manual override on/off button to turn the cord on and off, but should I forget to turn it off some morning (again)...it'll turn itself off. No worries trying to figure out what a good 'on' time for it should be. Since, there's the 'on' time that I would like to go to bed at....and the 'on' time for when I actually do get to bed. Though the 'off' time is kind of late in the day....because I like to sleep in on weekends, and don't want it shutting me off.
A timer where I could have different weekday/weekend settings would be nicer, but I didn't see such a thing when I made this impulse buy.....
Now the only question is what to do about the fact that the hose is so heavy now that it keeps pulling me over. Especially, since I'm trying a ComfortLite2 mask now. Maybe I need a bit of an extension or something....
