ComfortLite and dry mouth

Post by swtsassy65 » Tue Jul 26, 2005 5:54 pm

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has or has tried the comfort lite nasal mask.
If you have did you wake up with a dry mouth?
I am not a mouth breather and had my heat set up on 2 but I still woke up really dry.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks

I've used the Respironics Comfort-lite alot -->wore one out and bought a second. I've had great success with it despite how cumbersome it looks.

It is highly unlikely that your dry mouth is an artifact of the mask (any mask, for that matter) but, instead, is the result of you having some mouth leak. Our nasal passages/sinus system act as a natural humidifier which is why we don't get a dry throat (ususally) from breathing through the nose. The heated humidifier helps tremendously, but is not likely to be able to compensate for the dry air that you are breathing if your mouth is coming open while you sleep.

So, rather than change masks (especially if you are getting a good seal at your nose and finding the mask comfortable) try using a chin strap/athletic binding/tape/etc., to keep your mouth closed at night. If you stop the mouth leak, you are likely to see the end of dry throat, especially if you are using yur heated humidifier.
